Zhao Fenglian Dies Due to Torture at the Women's Prison in Gansu Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Zhao Fenglian, a Falun Gong practitioner from Jinchang, Gansu Province was severely persecuted at the women's prison in that area. Because of inhuman torture, she became emaciated, appearing as just skin and bones. When the prison staff realized that she was near death, they told her family to take her to a hospital for medical treatment. Yet, they refused to release her as soon as her condition improved. They told her family to come back in a few days...for her ashes! At about 9:00 a.m. on December 22, 2005, Zhao Fenglian left this human world forever.

Ms. Zhao Fenglian, 51, used to live in apartment 22 of Building 32, in the No. 6 area of Longjinli, Jinchuan District, Jinchang, Gansu Province. Zhao Fenglian began to practice Falun Dafa in 1996. Even though she was illiterate, she actively participated in spreading Dafa. Dafa practitioners gathered for studying the Fa at her home. In January 2001, Zhao Fenglian was illegally sentenced to one year of forced labor, because she told the truth of Falun Gong to the public.

At the end of 2002, she visited practitioner Li Dexiang to give her Teacher's new articles. The Binhe Road police followed her. They broke into Li's house and arrested them. The area's TV station sent a reporter to make a film for the special topics program. Zhao and Li were arrested and illegally detained in the Jinchang detention center for more than sixty days. After that they were transferred and detained in the cigarette detoxification center of Jinchang for another 100 days. Li and Zhao went on hunger strikes to protest the persecution and suffered cruel force-feedings. One time Liu Liguo, the head of the bureau, Zhou, the deputy head, the guard on shift and several drug-users pushed Zhao Fenglian down on the bed. Zhao's head was hanging over the bed railing without any support. They then began to force feed her cruelly. They could not get the food into her, so Liu pushed a full bottle of water into Zhang's mouth and moved it around forcefully. As a result, Zhao Fenglian's lost three teeth.

In late October 2003, once again the police of the Public Security Branch's Jinchuan Political Protection Division arrested Zhao Fenglian. On December 22, 2003, the Jinchuan Court concurred with the arrest of Zhao Fenglian. In October 2004, the Jinchuan Court convened a secret trial at the Jinchang Detention Center and sentenced Zhao Fenglian to a 4-year prison term, as reported earlier by the Minghui/Clearwisdom website.

In December 2004, Zhao Fenglian was taken to team No. 2 at the Gansu Province women's prison, where she suffered brutal torture. Large, hard black blocks were put in front and in back of her body. She had become emaciated and was only skin and bones. Those who hold responsibility for Zhao Fenglian's persecution are Wang Ling, the head of the section, and Gu, the head of the team. They tried to force Zhao Fenglian to denounce Teacher and Dafa in writing, but Zhao Fenglian wrote, "I'm innocent."

Zhao Fenglian endured more than four months of inhuman torture. Her stomach was injured because of brutal force-feeding with salt water. She could no longer eat. Towards the end of her life she went into a coma. The police were afraid that she might die and sent her to the hospital. The doctors told them that it was cancer. They gave her injections daily. Once they realized that she was dying, they notified her family. As soon as her family arrived at the hospital, Zhao Fenglian's health turned for the better, so they did not release her. They said to her family, "Come back in a few days! We will give you her ashes!" But, when they realized that she was dying, they hurriedly notified her family to take her back home.

On December 20, 2005, Zhao Fenglian went into a deep coma. Two days later, she left this human world. She died at home.

Those who bear direct responsibility for her persecution and death are Wang Ling and Gu of the Gansu Province women's prison.
