Falun Dafa Practitioner Liu Ruping, a Lawyer in Jinan City, Unlawfully Sentenced to Forced Labor

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Liu Ruping, a lawyer in Jinan City, was sent to a forced labor camp for posting truth-clarifying material and publishing an article condemning the government's attempts to brainwash and persecute Falun Gong practitioners.

Mr. Liu Ruping once worked for the Jinan City Zhangqing Region Planning Committee. He obtained his law license in 1993 and practiced law for the following firms: Zhangqing County Legal Consultant Office, Tianqi Law Office in Shandong Province, and Shuntian Law Office.

On October 17, 2005, Mr. Liu reportedly posted the "Falun Dafa Association Announcement" and was arrested by police from the Dongguan Police Station, Jinan City Public Security Bureau Zhangqing Branch. Later, brigade captain Ma Guangzhen from Zhangqing Branch Bureau led other policemen to ransack his home and took Mr. Liu to the Zhangqing Detention Center. He was then sent to the Jinan Brainwashing Center and the police extorted 2000 yuan from his family for the "training class fee." The police relocated Mr. Liu to the work unit at the Zhangqing Region Party School to undergo brainwashing. Mr. Liu's 84-year-old father was devastated when he heard that his son would be sent to a forced labor camp on November 12 if he refused to be "reformed." Overwhelmed with grief and indignation, Mr. Liu's father suffered a heart attack and passed away on November 15. Mr. Liu returned home to attend his father's funeral and decided not to return to the brainwashing center. To avoid arrest, he traveled far from home.

On November 25, 2005, Mr. Liu publicly issued an article to urge the government to immediately terminate attempts to "reform" Falun Gong practitioners. Officials from the Zhangqing Branch Bureau and the 610 Office were enraged. On December 7, 2005, they ordered the director of the Shuntian Law Office, Tao Xiangying, to call Mr. Liu to his office. They then arrested Mr. Liu and sent him to the Jinan City Brainwashing Center in an attempt to "reform" him. When Mr. Liu refused to stop practicing Falun Gong, he was unlawfully sentenced to one year and three months of forced labor. He is now detained in the Zibo City Forced Labor Camp in Shandong Province.
