Facts of the Persecution

Ms. Meng Guiqiu, 51, has been persecuted for a long time for her belief. In April 2004, the local police sent Meng Guiqiu to the Masanjia Forced Labor Camp for three years of detention. She was subjected to brainwashing, verbal abuse and torture. Two of her teeth were knocked out during force-feeding. On April 28, 2005, Meng Guiqiu's family went to visit her but the labor camp authorities didn't let her family meet with her. They only told her family that she was on a hunger strike. She had been on a hunger strike for over 200 days and her family is very concerned about her.

The deputy head of Changling County Politics and Law Committee in Jilin Province persecutes Falun Gong practitioners to get promoted. On November 23, 2005, the Changling County Court held an illegal trial of Falun Gong practitioners Zhang Shuhua and Liu Yanli from Gongzhuling City. Their families hired lawyers, but the government does not allow the lawyers to defend the practitioners in court. The judge did not allow the practitioners to defend themselves. The deputy head said, "I want to get promoted! I don't care whether or not you are innocent! I'll sentence you to prison if you practice Falun Gong."

Practitioner Mr. Liu Jinsheng is in his 50s. He lives in the Donggangzi Division, Machang Village, Chaluhe Town, Yongji County, Jilin Province. He had been detained many times and had money extorted from him over the past few years because he persisted in practicing Falun Gong. In November 2005, the police arrested Liu Jinsheng and have so far detained him at the Yongji County Custody Center.

On September 1, 2005, during a routine inspection at the Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison, guard Zhou Xiaoli took Falun Gong practitioner Zhang Yanfang's underwear. Zhang Yanfang wrote a letter to Liu, head of the prison, in which she appealed against the theft. The next day guards Zhou Xiaoli and Huang Jing retaliated against her. They led a few inmates and dragged her along the floor by the collar of her clothing. Zhang Jinfang began a hunger strike that is still ongoing.

In mid August 2005, Falun Gong practitioner(s) illegally detained at Division 7 were hung by their handcuffs inside the washing room.
