(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Yang Shuhui is over 40 years old. In September 2000, she suffered a mental collapse due to the persecution she experienced at the Jiamusi Forced Labor Camp. Since then, police officers at the labor camp have continued to torture Ms. Yang on a regular basis. Three or four officers often beat her. Police Captain He Qiang once told her, "You want to go home, right? We just won't let you!"

In September 2000, guard Lin Wei hung Ms. Yang upside down by her feet. Ms. Yang was in such pain that she screamed continuously, and every practitioner in the building sympathized with her and couldn't help but weep upon hearing her cries. Even before this incident, Ms. Yang had been handcuffed for two weeks, and had repeatedly lost consciousness while being subjected to the "Big Back-Cuff" torture (1). As a result of long-term physical and mental torture, Ms. Yang became mentally unstable.

On February 4, 2003, a guard named Wang Jie and some criminal inmates beat Ms. Yang so severely that her face and chin was purple with bruises. She ran into a room as the inmates chased her. Not until Falun Dafa practitioners Ma Rujun and Ma Cuihong stood up and held them off, did the perpetrators stop beating her. Instead of putting a stop to the physical abuse, however, Police Captain Zhang Yan said that Ms. Yang deserved to be beaten because she was mentally disordered.

When Yang Shuhui was strongly affected by her condition, she couldn't sleep. All she wanted was to go home. Sometimes she would run outside without shoes. Other times, she would scream loudly. Every time the guards brought her back, they invariably beat her severely. Because she couldn't sleep, the guards would force Ms. Yang to take sleeping pills. Once Ms. Yang refused to take the medication, and officer Wang Jie slapped her in the face. Dafa practitioner Ms. Sun Hong said to Wang Jie, "She is ill, why do you hit her?" Wang Jie walked over and slapped Ms. Sun in her face, too.

Falun Dafa practitioners have been helping Ms. Yang. Once she refused to put her shoes on, so officer Wang Jie hit and kicked her. When Ms. Yang went to the cafeteria, she ran toward the door to the kitchen. She thought that it was the door to her home, but she ran into Police Director Wang Tiejun. He punched her twice in the head. Ms. Yang fell but was caught by practitioners before she hit the ground. None of the staff members at the scene helped her. Later, Ms. Yang ran away during a restroom break and was found in a small room next to the workshop by guard Hong Wei. She was again handcuffed in the "Big Back-Cuff" position. Because Ms. Yang kept running away, she was handcuffed in the "Big Back-Cuff" position on at least three separate occasions.

This is what happens after a person is persecuted to the state of mental collapse in the labor camps. Ms. Yang Shuhui's experience is a clear example of the completely depraved and wicked nature of the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.

Crimes Committed by the Officials at the Jiamusi Forced Labor Camp

The officials of the Jiamusi Forced Labor Camp have been following the government's orders in persecuting Falun Dafa practitioners. As a result, they break the laws they are supposed to enforce. They have injured or disabled many kindhearted Falun Gong practitioners. According to Chinese law, all citizens have the right to appeal, expose and report unjust situations to the authorities. Citizens also have the freedom to correspond via the postal service. In the labor camp, however, one cannot write a letter of appeal without the consent of the squadron leader. Furthermore, they require an appeal letter to be split into sections. Then police officer Zhang Yu must inspect all letters of appeal before they are passed on to the Director of the Inspection Office. As a matter of fact, Zhang Yu must inspect all personal letters, not just letters of appeal. So far, more than twenty of the submitted letters of appeal have received no acknowledgement of any kind.

Many practitioners have been disabled by the torture method know as the "Big Back-Cuff." Both Wang Yingxia and Wang Yuhong have been injured to the extent that they can no longer use one of their hands. They appealed to the higher authorities, but heard nothing back. After being handcuffed in this position, practitioners Tong Li and Su Yanhua had to have people help them walk because their hands and feet are numb. Practitioners Fei Jinrong, Deng Yingxia and Gao Chengnu have also been injured to varying degrees, and require assistance just to walk. Currently, the guards have changed their method of persecution. They simply extend the sentences of Falun Gong practitioners. Using the slightest excuse, they add time onto practitioners' sentences, including those of practitioners who have been disabled by the torture. The guards often insult the personal character of practitioners. Some of the words used by officer Gao Jie cannot be repeated in any civilized conversation. Prison guard Li Xiujin scolds and hits people at will. She and Li Hui, another female guard, often forge the signatures of their supervisors to illegally add time to practitioners' sentences. Even if a practitioner simply uses the restroom, they might add time to a sentence. If a practitioner tries to clarify the situation to the guards, she might not only be scolded, but also have her sentence extended.

In 2002, the labor camp authorities required practitioners to write statements renouncing Falun Dafa. Those who refused were forced to do hard labor on the third floor. Police Captain He Qiang and Team Leader Liu Yadong forced practitioners to work from early morning until midnight every day without even a restroom break. During that period of time, one practitioner was tortured to death.

Male guards used rubber belts to hit the private parts of female practitioner Ma Rujun and another practitioner. On another occasion, the guards forced practitioners to do a marching drill. Female guard Chen Jin claimed that one person did not march well, so she punished the practitioner by forcing her to stand for a long time, and two other practitioners, Zhang Li'e and Li Xiaohong, were beaten so badly that their lower bodies were covered with bruises.

A 50-year-old practitioner was handcuffed in the "Big Back-Cuff" position for eight hours. As a result, both her hands were disabled and she hasn't recovered from this torture to this day. Falun Dafa practitioner Ms. Xu Hongzheng is close to 70 years old. She tore down a poster that defamed the founder of Falun Dafa, and a male guard dragged her by her feet from the room. She was handcuffed in the "Big Back-Cuff" position and forced to write a "Repentance Statement". Another practitioner lost consciousness while the police were forcing her to write a "Guarantee Statement".

In 2003, practitioner Qiu Yuxia was handcuffed in the "Big Back-Cuff" position for refusing to write a weekly report. For over a year now, she hasn't been able to use her arms and hands. Practitioner Qi Xiulan's husband passed away, and there is no one left to take care of her children.

Guards Liu Yadong and Zhang Xiaodan took Ms. Tang Fengkun into a room, then handcuffed her in the "Big Back-Cuff" position and beat her. They also instructed several collaborators to take her hands by force and write the "Repentance Statements". Six practitioners were handcuffed in the "Big Back-Cuff" position because they refused to sign agreements [renouncing Falun Gong] and their sentences were extended.

Guard He Qiang (female), Mu Zhenjuan, Zhang Xiaodan, Gao Xiaohua, Chen Chunmei, Zhu Tiehong, along with some male guards have tortured Falun Dafa practitioners with electric batons and handcuffs. They've also beaten and kicked practitioners. Practitioner Li Guiqing had her teeth knocked out. Some practitioners were beaten so badly that they were covered with blood. Those practitioners who refused to write weekly reports and recite the required anti-Falun Gong propaganda and slogans are all being persecuted. There are three practitioners who became mentally disabled as a result of the torture.

Falun Dafa practitioners are forced to work for more than 10 hours a day. If they cannot finish their assigned quotas, they are required to work overtime. They are not allowed to talk. Once a practitioner was forced to stand for two hours for saying just one sentence. Later, that practitioner was forced to clean the toilets before she was allowed to go back to her cell to sleep. Every day, practitioners must participate in the marching drill. At night, when one person needs to use the bathroom, two other people must accompany her.

Falun Dafa practitioner Bao Lixia cannot work because her hands are disabled from torture, so her term was extended. Some practitioners' terms were extended for as long as half a year. Practitioner Fei Jinrong cannot join the marching drill because both her hands and feet were injured from handcuffs and shackles. Guards Sun Hui and Li Xiujin beat her viciously. Fei Jinrong shouted loudly, "Falun Dafa is Good!" As a result, Ms. Fei's term was extended for two months. Practitioner Tong Li's term was also extended for two months because of the same incident. In addition, Ma Rujun and Fei Jinrong were handcuffed for 14 days and suffered greatly for refusing to wear the prison uniform.

Whenever there are inspectors from provincial bureaus, the labor camp puts on a show of serving good food instead of the usual steamed buns made of moldy flour.

The guards also lie to practitioners. They tell a practitioner that she must sign a form in order to be released when her term is up, but the form is actually an agreement to renounce Falun Dafa. Such forms are then used to generate false statistics. Many practitioners didn't read the form carefully before they signed it. Later, the police claimed that they had a 100 percent transformation rate.

(1) The "Big Back-Cuff" torture: a position in which a person's two hands are handcuffed behind the back with one hand over the shoulder and the other hand against the lower back. The perpetrators then apply a great deal of force to pull the two hands toward one another and handcuff the two hands together. This is also known as "Carrying a Sword in the Back." This position causes excruciating pain and is often used to torture Falun Gong practitioners.
