Ms. Liu Yuzhu was 47 years old when she died. She was born on April 1, 1957. She lived on Changlu Street in the Chuanying District of Jilin City. She obtained the Fa in 1998 and cultivated very diligently. She brought her son Zhao Mingcheng to group Fa-study and exercise practice every night. She became very healthy after practicing Falun Gong. Her home became a place for group Fa-study, which played a role in helping everyone improve. She also volunteered to teach the exercises to others at practice sites.

On July 20, 1999, she and fellow practitioners went to the Jilin Provincial Government in Changchun City to appeal on behalf of Falun Dafa. Later she went to the Jilin City government to appeal. She also made three attempts to go to Beijing and appeal. When she went to Beijing to appeal in 2000, she was accused of disturbing public security and sentenced to one year of forced labor. She suffered brutal persecution in the Third Division of the Heizuizi Women's Labor Camp in Changchun City. Because she insisted on studying the Fa and doing the Falun Gong exercises, the guard shocked her with electric batons.

She told us about some of the abuses which she personally experienced and witnessed in the labor camp:

In Division No. 6, guard Hou Zhihong often verbally abused practitioners. One day, when Liu Yuzhu and the other practitioners were doing the exercises, Hou Zhihong shocked her with electric batons. At the time Liu Yuzhu was having her period. The electric shock caused Liu to stop menstruating. From that day on, Liu never had another menstrual period in the labor camp. Liu also witnessed another practitioner Deng Shiying, who has since died from the abuse, being force-fed. The infusion tubes injured her stomach, causing it to bleed. The guard, lacking all humanity, also spoke filthy words again and again. Practitioners in the labor camp were all forced to do cruel, intense labor for 17 to 18 hours each day. Practitioners' terms in the labor camp were extended for as long as they did not give up their faith. Liu's health was damaged severely both physically and mentally. After being released, the 610 Office personnel in Jilin City didn't stop harassing her. Officials from the Changchun Road Police Station and the residential committee often went to harass her at her home. Due to this abuse, Ms. Liu's health deteriorated and she passed away on June 13, 2004.
