(Clearwisdom.net) Mr. Li Wenming, age 70, was a Falun Gong practitioner in Xiangtan City, Hunan Province. He and his wife, Mrs. Quan Huiping, firmly persisted in practicing Falun Gong despite the persecution. For this, they suffered frequent abuse. On February 9, 2002, several corrupt policemen, including Li Sheng abducted Mr. Li from his home. Li Wenming died shortly thereafter. His wife, Mrs. Quan Huiping continued to be harassed by local policemen.

Mr. Li Wenming was a retiree of Xiangtan Jiangbin Engine Factory. He began practicing Falun Gong in 1997. Before he learned Falun Gong, he suffered serious illness, including heart disease and atherosclerosis of the cerebral artery. He was confined to the hospital, and was dependent on medicine to live. All his illnesses miraculously disappeared shortly after he started practicing Falun Gong.

In December 2000, Li Wenming and his wife, Quan Huiping, went to Beijing to peacefully and legally appeal for Falun Dafa. As soon as they arrived at the Beijing Western Railway Station, police illegally arrested and detained them in Xiangtan's Chinese Communist Party (CCP) Office in Beijing. A policeman from Xiangtan Dahualing Police Station took Mr. Li to Xiangtan City. With no legal warrant, this policeman sent Mr. Li directly to a local detention center, detained him there for 15 days, extorted 600 yuan from him in fines, and then took him to a brainwashing class. There they attempted to force him to write down the "Guarantee Letter" to denounce Falun Gong, and the authorities withheld his entire retirement pension.

Mr. Li's wife, Mrs. Quan Huiping was also illegally detained in a labor camp and denied her retirement pension. The stress from this persecution made life unbearable for Mr. Li. He lived in such poverty that he couldn't even afford meals. The suffering took its toll on both his mind and body, and his previous diseases relapsed. However, he quickly recovered once his wife was released and they began to study the Fa and do the Falun Gong exercises together again.

On the evening of February 7, 2002, police officer Li Sheng from Xiangtan Dahualing Police Station broke into Mr. Li's home and said, "Your wife should come to the police station for questioning. She will be released within half an hour." Mrs. Quan went with the policeman, but instead of being questioned and released, she was taken to a detention center in Xiangtan City.

In the afternoon of February 9, along with other unlawful officials, Li Sheng broke into Mr. Li's home again. They took Mr. Li to a hospital, claiming that he needed to be examined by doctors. At 5:00 p.m. that day, Mr. Li passed away.

After Mr. Li's death, the officials did not stop persecuting his family. Local policemen continually harassed his wife, and they deprived his family members of the right to post an obituary notice or to hold a funeral ceremony for him. They even forbade Mr. Li's relatives and friends from paying their respects to the deceased.

Because Mrs. Quan Huiping dared to peacefully and legally appeal for Falun Dafa and clarify the truth of Falun Gong to the public, she has been illegally detained many times in various places, including Xiangtan Rehabilitation Center for Drug Addiction, Jintangwan Detention Center, Xiangtan Detention Center, Jiangbin Police Station, and a forced labor camp.

On February 17, 2004, when Mrs. Quan was visiting a friend, the police abducted her and took her to the police station. Policeman Dai Qunxing threatened her: "Tomorrow we will send you to Baimalong Labor Camp, where you will spend the Lunar New Year! Any police officer can arrest Falun Gong practitioners like you at will. If you're beaten, injured, tortured, or become lame, we'll say you asked for it. We aren't responsible for what we've done to you." He also threatened that she wouldn't be able to show her face in her community, as she was branded a "Labor Camp Prisoner."

In March 2004, the police broke into Mrs. Quan's home again and informed her that the Xiangtan CCP Committee was going to hold a seven-day brainwashing class. They threatened that if she didn't attend the brainwashing class, they would send her to a labor camp.

Mrs. Quan told them, "We Falun Dafa practitioners firmly cultivate in Dafa with dignity. What you are doing now is illegal. You want to 'reform' me, but to what? To be an evil person? You persecute me like this, but I am not afraid of you! All the good and righteous people around world will redress the injustice done against practitioners. Good will be rewarded with good, and evil will meet with evil. This is a universal truth."
