Falun Gong Practitioners Detained in Mental Hospitals in Jiangsu Province
(Clearwisdom.net) In Jiangsu Province, the primary method used by local officials to persecute
Falun Gong practitioners is to illegally detain them in mental hospitals. This
method is often used in Nanjing City, Suzhou City, Wuxi City, Yancheng City,
Yangzhou City, Taizhou City, and Xuzhou City in Jiangsu Province. As a witness
who has personally experienced persecution in this manner, I will reveal the
methods used by the persecutors in detail. It usually begins with illegal detention and questioning of practitioners by
officials of the 610 Office and police from the local State Security
Department. When a practitioner is due to be released from detention, the
persecutors will ask whether he or she still insists that Falun Dafa is good,
and if Truthfulness, Compassion and Forbearance are good. If the practitioner
says "yes," without any legal procedures, the officials label them as
suffering from psychosis and send them directly to mental hospitals, where they
are detained for indefinite periods of time. Inside these mental hospitals, the
doctors and nurses continuously implement comprehensive persecution to devastate
the minds and bodies of practitioners under the banner of "treatment." Initially practitioners are forced to take medicines either orally or
intravenously, and any resistance will incite medical staff to forcefully inject
substances into the practitioners' bodies, which devastates their central
nervous systems. Each practitioner is forced to take anywhere from ten to more
than forty tablets at mealtimes, which can be very harmful to them. The nurses
check to make sure that the tablets are being swallowed. If a practitioner
doesn't take them, nurses will pry the practitioner's mouth open and pour the
tablets down his or her throat, after which the practitioner will be subjected
to electric shocks. Some practitioners' teeth have been broken or even pulled
out in this process. Another method the persecutors use is to force practitioners to sleep for
extended periods. They detain practitioners in very small rooms with four or
five real mental patients, and force the practitioners to sleep for about 20
hours a day. A far more prevalent method of persecuting practitioners is to subject them
to electric shocks. They have two approaches to torturing practitioners with
electricity. One is tying the practitioner to an iron bed with bandages, and
then administering electricity until the practitioner loses consciousness.
Practitioners subjected to this torture are often unconscious for as long as
three or four hours. The purpose is to ruin the practitioners' central nervous
systems and their ability to think and remember. Another frequently used torture
method is to shock practitioners with electric batons. The practitioners will
either be tied up or held down, and then an electric baton is used to shock the
palms, arches, neck and other sensitive parts of the practitioners' bodies
repeatedly and for extended periods. The persecution does not stop there, but extends to the families of
practitioners, who are subjected to economic persecution. While brutally
torturing the practitioners, their families are forced to pay 5,000-6,000 yuan
a month for this so-called medical treatment. Perhaps the most insidious facet of this type of persecution is the fact that
it goes on indefinitely. There are no restrictions or time limits for mental
hospital detention of practitioners, and some practitioners might never be
released. The persecutors can repeatedly torture the practitioners until they
either give up, suffer a complete collapse, or die. Being persecuted like this, the bodies and minds of practitioners have been
tormented gravely. Their bodies have become extremely weak, they no longer have
normal control of their bodies, and their reactions are slow or even abnormal. I
myself repeatedly lost consciousness due to exhaustion while I was illegally
detained there. March 17, 2005 Posting date: 3/29/2005
