Details of How Liu Ziwei Was Tortured to Death at Changchun City's Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp
(Clearwisdom.net) On Friday, December 10, 2004, after three and a half
days of continuous torture, Falun Dafa practitioner Liu Ziwei passed away. Mr.
Liu had been unlawfully arrested by Baishan City police and sentenced to three
years at Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp, the notorious "transformation"
base in Changchun, Jilin Province. Liu Ziwei had been on a hunger strike to protest his persecution since his
arrest. Liu Ziwei, 30 years old, was from Baishan City. On December 10, his
earthshaking shouts of "Falun Dafa is Good!" echoed throughout
Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp, shocking all the policemen there. Around 9:00 p.m. on December 10, Liu Ziwei was sending forth righteous
thoughts in the 01 dorm room of the 5th Division in the No.3
building. The guard assigned to monitor Liu Ziwei, Li Kehai, didn't say anything
at that time. The dorm monitor Teng Haidong said it was fine as long as he did
not make any noise or cause a scene. After a while, the monitor of the newcomers
class Wang Pingang came in and ordered Li Kehai, Xu Gang and Teng Haidong to
force Liu Ziwei down on a bed, so Liu Ziwei started shouting "Falun Dafa is
Good!" to resist them. In order to silence Liu Ziwei, Wang Pingang ordered
Xu Gang to gag him with socks and a towel. At that time, Shen Jiang, Tan Dongyang and Wang Hongsheng were all present.
They said, "It is the order from higher officers that Falun Gong
practitioners are not allowed to do the exercises. If you have a problem with
this, you should talk to the officers tomorrow, and we have plenty of methods to
deal with you." Wang Hongsheng suggested that they put Liu Ziwei in
solitary compartment. Then the policeman on duty Mao Chen came in with
handcuffs. He said, "Didn't you shout? Didn't you make noise? I am going to
jail you in the solitary compartment. The Communist Party has a lot of ways to
deal with you. You will be tame after being on the "Big Hang Up" (Note:
There are two forms in this torture: (1) With both hands cuffed behind the back
and only the toes touching the ground, one is hung by a rope that is tied to the
metal window frames; (2) One hand of a practitioner is cuffed to one bunk bed
and the other hand to another bed, and the two beds are pulled in the opposite
directions. It feels extremely painful as the body is pulled.). So, Yu Yi,
Li Kehai, and Xu Gang dragged Liu Ziwei to the solitary compartment in the 09
dorm room of the 5th Division. Liu Ziwei didn't even have a chance to
put his shoes on. There were five steel cages in 09 dorm room, and each cage has two iron rings
on the top of it, which is for the "Big Hang Up." One cannot sit down,
since both hands are locked to the iron rings with the handcuffs. One has to
hold his hands up all the time, otherwise the iron rings will make the hands
swell and turn black. One cannot fall asleep either. This method is used to
torture steadfast Falun Gong practitioners. Even a healthy person cannot endure
this torture, but Liu Ziwei was locked on the "Big Hang Up" when he
was too physically weak to stand up by himself. One kindhearted prisoner said,
"Mr. Mao, please put him down. Look at how pale Liu Ziwei's hands
are." But Mao answered, "It is none of your business. Don't worry, he
won't die." So nobody else dared to say anything. (The "610
Office" passed the order issued by Jiang Zemin to the labor camp,
"Defame their [Falun Gong practitioners'] reputations, bankrupt them
financially and destroy them physically." and "When practitioners are
killed, their deaths will be counted as suicides.") Mao ordered prisoner
Liu Zhengwei to find bamboo chopsticks to force open Liu Ziwei's mouth. Liu
Zhengwei told people, "This is the order from Mao Chen: 'In order to stop
Liu Ziwei from shouting, open his mouth with chopsticks and insert something in
it.'" Mao Chen and prisoners pried open Liu Ziwei's mouth, causing it to
bleed in the process, and then gagged his mouth with a towel and dirty socks. The monitors on duty from 4:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. on December 10 were Li
Kehai and Xu Gang, the ones from 12:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. on December 11 were Fu
Lianhe and Zhong Hua, and the ones from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on December 11
were Sun Zhenhai and Tan Dongyang. The prison doctor Li Fei came to the 5th
Division at 8:00 a.m. on December 11. He tried to insert a rubber tube into Liu
Ziwei's mouth to force-feed him. Liu Ziwei refused to open his mouth, so Li Fei
pried his mouth open with a stick, which injured his teeth and gums. They
force-fed Liu Ziwei with corn gruel with a lot of salt added. The purpose of
putting extra salt in the gruel is to make the victim thirsty, therefore the
person would drink a lot of water and eat food, thus breaking their hunger
strike. After the force-feeding, Liu Ziwei was locked on the "Big Hang
Up" again. Mao Chen claimed, "You will be released as soon as you
start eating. No eating, no release." Around 10:00 a.m., the head of the
labor camp, Wang Xiaoming came to the solitary compartment to talk to Liu Ziwei.
The monitor on duty Sun Zhenhai was ordered to leave the room. After being hung
up for the whole day, Liu Ziwei talked with the monitor on duty at 8:00 p.m.,
Zhang Wei, and he released Liu Ziwei from the "Big Hang Up." After breakfast on the morning of December 12, Liu Ziwei was locked on the
"Big Hang Up" again. Liu Ziwei was very weak and could not stand
anymore, but the monitors still hung him up. Fu Lianhe and Sun Zhenhai dragged
Liu Ziwei to the surveillance room to force-feed him. The monitor on duty on the
night of December 12 was Shang. Around 10:00 p.m., Tan Dongyang released Liu
Ziwei for dinner. At 8:00 a.m. on December 13, Liu Ziwei was put on a bed in the 01 dorm room.
The monitors gave him some daily necessities such as toothpaste and a brush,
because they heard that Liu Ziwei's family was going to visit him that day. His family did come to visit him that day. After dinner, his family saw Fu
Lianhe and Li Kehai drag Liu Ziwei to the bathroom. Liu Ziwei did not have any
strength and his head hung down over his chest. Around 6:00 p.m., Sun Qunying
went into the 01 dorm room and saw Liu Ziwei lying on the bed. Fu Lianhe and Li
Kehai were prodding his lower back with their feet. Fu and Li claimed that Liu
Ziwei was pretending, and said to him, "If you don't move, your muscles
will atrophy, and you won't be able to walk later." The team leaders on
duty on December 13, He Jianxin and Wang also cursed at Liu Ziwei, accusing him
of pretending to be weak. Around 10:30 p.m. on December 13, Liu Ziwei died in the Chaoyanggou Forced
Labor Camp. Yang Quanguo was on duty. When he reported to He Jianxin, He Jianxin still
thought Liu Ziwei was pretending. When he found that Liu Ziwei was not
breathing, he called the prison doctor Li Fei. Li Fei inserted some heart attack
pills into Liu's mouth and said, "Tell people he died of a heart attack
when they ask." Around 10:40 p.m., the monitor of the 2nd Class in the 5th
Division Wang Yadong carried Liu Ziwei away. He Jianxin lied, saying that they
took Liu to the emergency room. Around midnight, they came back without Liu
Ziwei. Then policeman Wang told Yang Quanguo to destroy all the duty records and
make up some fake ones. The people who were involved in creating the fake
records were Teng Haidong, Tan Dongyang, Fu Lianhe, Li Kehai, Liu Zhengwei, Wang
Pingang and other monitors. They worked on it until the next morning. Around 10:00 a.m. on December 14, several people from the labor camp sawed
off the iron rings on the steel cage in the solitary compartment to eliminate
the evidence of their crime. All the witnesses that the investigator from the
Judicial Bureau talked to were prisoners, and they provided false testimony. The
Bureau did not dare to talk to Falun Gang practitioners to find out the truth.
Finally they concluded that Liu Ziwei died due to a heart attack and claimed
that it was a result of natural causes. Liu Ziwei's death also proved what Gao Zhilu, the division leader of the 4th
Division, said, "The government proclaimed labor camps are free of any
legal responsibility if prisoners die in them. If someone was beaten to death in
the labor camp, then we will find some prisoners to give the false testimony,
burn the dead body, and then everything will be fine. The Communist Party will
not have any legal responsibility and they have a lot of methods to deal with
