The Crimes of Party Secretary Wang Yingying and Others at Hebei University of Science & Technology

(Clearwisdom.net) Since Jiang Zemin's scoundrel political group began persecuting Falun Gong on July 20, 1999, Wang Yingying, the Party secretary at Hebei University of Science & Technology, Chancellor Lu Changfu, and others at the university have personally participated in the persecution. They have held "political study sessions" and signature collections to attack Falun Gong and poison the minds of the faculty and students, and they have severely persecuted members of the university who are Falun Gong practitioners. The perpetrators have illegally detained their colleagues who practice Falun Gong, suspended them and ordered them to write self-criticizing statements. They have made them "work under observation," fired them, sent them to work on farms and in greenhouses, and deducted or even discontinued the practitioners' salaries and bonuses.

Listed below are several serious persecution cases at the university. We call on human rights organizations and people in the educational field around the world to pay attention to the grave injustice imposed on Falun Gong practitioners at Hebei University of Science & Technology.

1. Practitioner Ms. Li Huiyun, 41 years old, holds a Ph.D. degree. She was an associate professor at the College of Mechanical Science & Engineering. Ms. Li was highly capable and hardworking and had won many academic awards, both nationally and abroad. She was persecuted for a very long time because she persisted in her Falun Gong practice. The perpetrators tried to force Ms. Li to write a guarantee statement and they made her "work under observation." They barred her from attending academic conferences in foreign countries and from traveling to Hong Kong. They forbade her to give lectures and made her a virtual servant, fetching hot water and cleaning the staircases. In late 2003, Professor Li Huiyun went to Party Secretary Wang Yingying and other school officials to clarify the truth in order to help stop the persecution of Falun Gong, and to request the restoration of her legal rights. She explained that Falun Gong practitioners' right to exercise their belief is protected under current Chinese laws, just as freedom of belief is guaranteed by the Chinese Constitution. She told them that those who persecute Falun Gong and force practitioners to abandon their belief are violating the law and citizens' rights as spelled out in the constitution.

Party Secretary Wang Yingying and other perpetrators not only turned a deaf ear to Ms. Li's pleas, but they escalated the persecution against her. On February 24, 2004 they abducted Professor Li and her husband Mr. Song Hongshui for the second time and sent them to a brainwashing class, officially named the Hebei Provincial Capital Legal Education Training Center. Li Huiyun was cruelly tortured at the brainwashing class. She was not allowed to sleep for several days and nights and she was physically abused by being burned with cigarettes, hit over the head and verbally abused. Li Huiyun eventually suffered a nervous breakdown. In August 2004 she was sent to a mental hospital to be further persecuted. One and a half months later, Professor Li was sent to Division 5 of the Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp, to be held for two years. According to witnesses there, she is in poor condition and often cries.

Many people sympathized with Li Huiyun, yet the perpetrators terminated her salary the day they sent her to the brainwashing class. They proceeded to illegally fire her on December 1, 2004. According to existing laws, people held in labor camps have the right to keep their jobs.

2. Practitioner Mr. Song Hongshui, 41 years old, is Professor Li Huiyun's husband. He holds a bachelor's degree. Mr. Song works at a Party organization at the College of Information Sciences & Engineering. His colleagues acknowledge that he is kind, caring and hardworking. Mr. Song was persecuted in various ways for practicing Falun Gong. He was ordered to write a guarantee statement, his salary and bonus were reduced, and he was demoted to the position of gardener. On February 24, 2004, Song Hongshui was abducted along with his wife and sent to a brainwashing class, where he was tortured physically and mentally. After his release, the perpetrators at the university cut his salary for six months because he refused to write a guarantee statement.

Mr. Song provides for his middle-school-aged son with his savings and misses his wife terribly. It is difficult to imagine the hard life he is forced to live, simply for upholding his belief in Falun Gong.

3. Ms. Li Xiumin, 44 years old, has a bachelor's degree. She worked at the Adult Education Institute. Because she did the Falun Gong exercises at the Hebei Theater on Chinese New Year's Eve, the perpetrators at the university detained her and tried to force her to renounce her belief, in violation of the constitution. According to Chinese laws, a work unit does not have the right to detain its employees or deprive them of their freedom of belief. Party Secretary Wang Yingying failed to "reform" Li Xiumin, so she fired her and sent her to a labor camp to be held for three years. In early 2003, Li Xiumin was savagely tortured but still remained determined in her belief. After her release, she went back to the school officials and asked for her job back but was refused. Right now, Li Xiumin is being held at Shijiazhuang Forced Labor Camp for a three-year sentence.

4. Practitioner Ms. Zu Yidan, 30 years old, has a Master's degree. She taught at the College of Textiles & Garments. Her husband Hui Hongqi is in his 30s and also has a Master's degree. On December 1, 2004, university officials placed both of them under "work under observation" status for one year, for practicing Falun Gong.

5. Practitioner Ms. Ji Lixia, 39 years old, has a bachelor's degree. She is a lecturer at the College of Foreign Languages. In 2001, she was punished with one year of "work under observation" for practicing Falun Gong.

6. Practitioner Mr. Han Junhong, 40 years old, has an associate degree and used to work as a chemist at the former Hebei Textile Industry Institute. He was fired in December 2000. In 2002, the Hebei Institute merged with Hebei University of Science & Technology and changed its name to College of Biology, Science & Engineering. In late 2004, Han Junhong went to Wang Yingying and other officials and asked for his job back but was refused.

7. Practitioner Ms. Qu Ping, 46 years old, graduated from a technical secondary school. She worked as a pharmacist at the former Hebei Textile Industry Institute. She was fired and also expelled from the Party in December 2000.

The cases listed above are only the tip of the iceberg. We earnestly hope that people with inside information will continue to provide us with facts of the persecution. Hebei University of Science & Technology is supposed to be a place where knowledge is transmitted, but it has degenerated into a tool of persecution against Falun Gong practitioners under Jiang's group's coercion. The unconscionable Chinese Communist Party has destroyed people's conscience, justice and traditional moral values through numerous political movements. These political roughnecks are completely devoid of morals and are being used as tools during the persecution, without thinking of the consequences of their actions.
