Mandurah Mail (Western Australia): Phone Messages Disturb Photographer

Friday, 18 February 2005

A Mandurah man claims he has received numerous disturbing phone messages he said were linked to the Chinese Government.

Local photographer Sean Hutchison said the messages directly targeted those involved in a Chinese exercise and meditation practice he knows well, Falun Gong.

Hutchison has practiced the ancient form of Qigong, sometimes referred to as Chinese Yoga, for three and a half years and has become known for his efforts in addressing the Chinese Government's brutal persecution of Falun Gong practitioners in China.

A statewide photo exhibition, public displays and published articles all exemplify Sean's commitment to exposing the torture and genocide of innocent men, women and children imprisoned by authorities in China.

"I think the phone messages are an attempt by the Chinese Government to tell me Big Brother is watching. It's an obvious scare tactic."

"I figured they'd have my name on a list somewhere. They don't take too kindly to people exposing their brutal regime when they are trying to present themselves as improving on the human rights front.

They have interestingly left themselves wide open leaving another opportunity to expose their propaganda and crimes against humanity."

The recorded messages last up to several minutes each, containing information in Chinese and English.

"The parts of the messages in English are hard to understand, the Chinese accent is very strong.

Those responsible for these recordings have made it very clear they hate Falun Gong. Hutchison is continuing to receive the recorded phone messages, sometimes every half hour.

"If I leave the house my answering machine becomes full with these messages.

"It's become a problem as this phone line is used to run a busy photographic business and customers can't leave their messages because the answering machine is full."

Mr Hutchison said Falun Gong helped to improve the body's health and promotes principles of truthfulness, compassion, and tolerance.

He said this was practiced in more than 70 countries around the world.

Mr Hutchison said the Chinese Government felt threatened because every Falun Gong practitioner around the world was helping to expose the genocide in China."

He field regular enquiries from people throughout the Peel region keen to learn the ancient Chinese form of Qigong.

He says people often confused the exercises with Tai Chi as they appear very similar.

Benefits from Falun Gong are presented as numerous and varied, ranging from improved health and energy, to mental clarity and stress relief.
