Vicious Tortures Committed by Policeman Xiang Jianzhong

Until April 2003, the special team of the No. 3 Forced Labor Camp in Shanghai City was not very successful in transforming Falun Gong practitioners. When Jiang Zemin (the former leader of the Chinese Communist Party) fled from Beijing to Shanghai to escape SARS he found out and was furious about it. Therefore, he put pressure on the local government. At that time, senior officials from the Shanghai 610 Office asked for policemen from the most merciless prisons and forced labor camps to help them gain experience persecuting practitioners. After that, they stepped up their persecution efforts.

They first forced the former director of the special team into retirement. Then they appointed policeman Xiang Jianzhong, who was nicknamed "killer," to the team as the new director. According to the three police guards who were transferred to the special team from Xiang's old unit, Xiang is a villainous torturer. Two criminal inmates under Xiang had committed suicide because they couldn't endure his torture. His cruel torture record got him promoted to director.

Xiang always said to Falun Gong practitioners, "You are not afraid of death, right? Then I will not let you die; I will let you suffer more than die!" Once, during a conference, Xiang said, "If you (the criminals) can't "transform" them (the Falun Gong practitioners), you will have to work from dusk to dawn. If you transform them, you will be rewarded, and your term will be reduced. You shouldn't be afraid. If any practitioner remains steadfast, I will destroy him/her. Understand? Destroy! We will have 100uccess in transforming them."

Since then, the torture of Falun Gong practitioners has intensified continuously. They used all of the brutal torture methods they had learned from China's prisons and forced labor camps on Falun Gong practitioners, because they believe in Truthfulness-Compassion-Tolerance and will not fight back or swear. They beat the practitioners nonstop, prevented them from sleeping around the clock, handcuffed them, and shocked them with electric batons. After the torture some practitioners couldn't walk unassisted. Some were beaten until they vomited blood, and some were tortured to the point of mental breakdowns. The situation improved a little bit only after they tortured Mr. Lu Xingguo and Mr. Ma Xinxing to death.

After perpetrating such inhuman atrocities, the guilty parties did not receive any punishment. Instead, the upper judiciary arm of the Chinese government encouraged them and gave them awards. Director Gu and political instructor Hong of the special division were promoted. Xiang Jianzhong continued working with the special team, because they couldn't find anyone "better" than the "killer" to carry out the persecution.

This is the true situation of the No. 3 Forced Labor Camp of Shanghai City, which received awards from the Ministry of Justice of China and was named an Advanced Civilized Unit.
