Canada: Mayor of Port Moody, BC Proclaims Falun Dafa Month Honoring Truth-Compassion-Forbearance in the City of Port Moody [April 26, 2005]

(Clearwisdom.net) On April 26, 2005, Mayor, Joe Trasolini, of the City of Port Moody, Canada, proclaimed month of May, 2005 as Falun Dafa Month Honoring Truth-Compassion-Forbearance in the City of Port Moody, Canada.

Proclamation

Whereas: Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, is a practice of meditation and exercises with teachings based on the universal principle of Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance, which was brought to the public in China in 1992 by Mr. Li Hongzhi;

Whereas; Falun Dafa is peacefully practiced in more that 60 countries, where practitioners are welcomed as productive, kind and responsible citizens;

Whereas: The Government of People's Republic of China cracked down on the practice of Falun Dafa in July 1999 and illegally arrested thousands of practitioners, 10,000 of whom were sent to labor camps without trial and others illegally imprisoned in mental hospitals and who have suffered through forced injections and psychological torture; and of which 1,735 known practitioners have been tortured to death;

Whereas: The enormous human rights violations, documented by reputable organizations, and the large body of direct testimony from inside China highlights a reality of the Crimes Against Humanity, that effect every man, woman and child in China, and unavoidable, Canadian citizens as well;

Whereas: Even though Falun Dafa has received overwhelming support form the Canadian government, and governments all over the world, it remains a target of suppression by the Communist government of the People's Republic of China, which rejects freedom of conscience, expression and assembly;

Whereas: The commitment of Falun Dafa practitioners to the peaceful resolution of conflicts in this most severe environment and their efforts to promote rule of law and uphold fundamental freedoms encourage humanity to strengthen our common resolve to uphold human rights;

And Whereas: Falun Dafa practitioners are joyously celebrating the 13^th anniversary of Falun Dafa's introduction to the public on May 13^th, 2005 with festivals and public celebrations to be held across Canada throughout the month of May;

Now, Therefore, I, Joe Trasolini, Mayor of the City of Port Moody, do hereby proclaim the month of May, 2005, as:

"Falun Dafa Month Honoring Truthfulness-Compassion-Forbearance"

in the City of Port Moody.
