On Wednesday, Falun Gong practitioners in Germany held an appeal to support Singapore practitioners in Berlin. At around noontime, this reporter interviewed Mr. Ye Min regarding this activity.

Mr. Ye Min: We are now outside the Singapore Embassy in Germany. We are holding a protest because two Falun Gong practitioners in Singapore were convicted of "illegal assembly without an application" and "possession and distribution of VCDs without permission" and are currently imprisoned. The two Singaporean Falun Gong practitioners do not acknowledge this verdict, so they went on hunger strike in the prison. Their hunger strike has been going on for almost 6 days. We call upon the Singapore government not to assist the Chinese government [in their persecution].

Mr. Ye Min: What these two Falun Gong practitioners did was simply to tell the Singaporean people the truth of the Chinese communist regime's persecution of Falun Gong. This is a typical case of politics interfering with the law and citizens' basic rights.

Mr. Ye Min: I myself have been to Singapore in 1998 once. At that time, the Southeastern Falun Dafa Experience Sharing Conference was held in Singapore. More than 1,000 Falun Gong practitioners attended the convention. Our Master Li Hongzhi also arrived in person. The situation in 1998 was like this: it was completely legal for several dozen and even several hundred Falun Gong practitioners to practice the exercises at parks or beaches. The police never intervened. The situation has changed in Singapore after July 1999, when the Chinese communist regime began persecuting Falun Gong. One can see clearly that the Singapore government is following the lead of the Chinese Communist Party when handling Falun Gong issues. They use politics to interfere with practitioners' normal and fundamental rights.

On Friday, practitioners who participated in the activity delivered an appeal letter to the Singapore Embassy. It is expected that Falun Gong practitioners around Hamburg will hold similar activities outside the Singapore Consulate there. Practitioners in other cities will conduct signature drives and appeals in the cities.

The above was reported by Tianyi, an RFA special correspondent in Germany.
