Reflections after Reading "Teaching the Fa at the Western US International Fa Conference"

(Clearwisdom.net) I was a Buddhist believer who lived in ordinary society. I used to think that a Buddha, if he wanted to save sentient beings that had sinned in this world, had to suffer. Through this suffering he would move ordinary people's hearts and they would learn from the Buddha. After reading Teacher's lecture, "Teaching the Fa at the Western US International Fa Conference (April 19, 2005)," I realized I held a misconception.

In the old universe, Jesus Christ, Sakyamuni, and Lao Zi's cultivation paths were thought of as "normal." I believed them to be different from their followers in the details. But those are the ways gods in the old universe saw the path of a cultivator. When I first attained Falun Dafa, I thought Teacher was just like Sakyamuni. He was here to save us. But what I did not know at the time was that it did not matter how deep or how detailed Sakyamuni's lectures were; all his lectures were based on the concepts of the old universe's rules.

Instead, our Teacher is teaching us an entirely new cultivation system and practice, one that has never been propagated in history. No one else ever dared to teach the way Teacher teaches. This is the greatest compassion for all sentient beings in the old universe. I understand that this is the first time Teacher has taught Falun Dafa in the human world. Therefore, all sentient beings of the old universe were confused. They judged Teacher by the old standards and concepts. They did not want to change themselves or could not recognize their own shortcomings. It's because all sentient beings of the old universe have deviated from the original standards of the universe's Fa. This is the sole reason Teacher came to rectify the Fa, the law of the universe.

When the persecution began on July 20, 1999, and Jiang's regime spread lies, claiming that Teacher owned a luxurious house in Beijing and so on. Some practitioners believed those lies and even stopped their practice of Falun Dafa. They did not understand that Teacher is saving all sentient beings, and is teaching people an entirely new cultivation system! Some Buddhists who read many Buddhism books still hold on to some thoughts of the old universe. It's time to get rid of them. We cannot reach Consummation while holding these wrong thoughts. Of course, the good points of the old universe can be maintained.

As a Falun Dafa practitioner in the Fa-rectification period, we carry with us great responsibilities.

No matter how hard it is, I think Teacher is rectifying us through his lectures. The advantage is that we are actively assimilating to Falun Dafa. Teacher offered us the title of "Falun Dafa Practitioners." He is saving us, helping us to discard the laws from the old universe. We should do what a Falun Dafa practitioner should do. But that's just part of the fundamental meaning of "Falun Dafa practitioners." We also need to truly understand what Teacher has taught us in order to do better in the future.
