Small Hands in a Big Hand - My Story of Teaching Falun Dafa to a Group of Children (Photos)
By a practitioner in Taiwan
(Clearwisdom.net) When I met my new class, a group of second graders, my
instinct told me that I was here to help them obtain the Fa. Soon
after the new semester began, the school held a discussion between parents and
teachers. In the meeting, I distributed truth clarifying materials
about Falun Gong to the parents with an uneasy heart, and told them the truth
about the practice. I had to obtain their permission before I could teach the
children to practice. After my explanation, the parents had no doubts. Several
days later, I started leading a group of children to study the Fa and practice
the exercises every day. During the year of practice, the children gave me a lot of surprises, helping
me realize the great power of the Fa. For the first semester, we studied the teachings and practiced the exercises
every day. At first, I was concerned that the children did not have a big enough
vocabulary, so I read one sentence first, then they read it. Only a couple of
days passed before I realized that my concern was not an issue. From then on,
every morning at seven fifty we practiced, and then learned together. The
attention and progress of the children learning the Fa astonished me. I invited
two grade six practitioners to accompany the children during the twice-a-week
morning meetings. After the meeting, we would return to the classroom and learn
the Fa together. During the first semester we finished reading Zhuan
Falun once and reciting "Hong Yin." By the start of the second semester, the children could practice in the
morning by themselves. They did not need the company of higher grade children
during the teachers' morning meeting. Once, when I returned to the classroom a
little bit late, I found them reciting Hong Yin after practice, which
greatly surprised me. After that, every time I returned late from the meeting, I
could hear them reciting Hong Yin with such beautiful voices. I knew from
my heart that the Fa had already deeply rooted at the bottom of the children's
hearts. The seed had been planted. I was so happy for them. The progress in the
second semester was even faster. Three or four weeks before summer vacation,
they finished reading Zhuan Falun, so every day after practice we recited
Lunyu and Hong Yin. Children are still children. Quarrels among them are inevitable. However,
once I told them the Fa principles, they could quickly realize their
shortcomings, or they could forgive. Once when I was grading homework, a small
boy was complaining to another. I heard the listener say to him happily,
"Why are you angry, since he gave you virtue?" in the end, the child
did not come to me to complain. In the children's journals, they wrote about the change in their
personalities, such as no longer fighting with their sisters for the remote
control, playing peacefully with their brothers on the computer, and not
fighting back against their sisters or brothers. The children had changed.
Moreover, Yucheng suddenly asked me one day near the end of the semester,
"Teacher, after grade three, who will accompany us to practice the
exercises and study Fa?" I told them they could join the Falun Dafa Group. Some children told me that their mothers hoped that they would not form a new
class in grade three, because once the teacher started the second grade class,
the children did not yell at their mothers at home. I told the children,
"It was not the teachers' doing. It was the Fa that changed you." At the end of the semester, my class discussed how to use the remainder of
the class fund. One child cried with excitement, "Donate to somebody."
I did not reply before Ji Xin said, "A focus on charitable works is still
action" ("Non-action" from Hong Yin). Another child
said, "Remove all attachments for true non-action"
("Non-action" from Hong Yin). At that time, I truly believed
that they understood the principles. I remember that when I started the class, Hongcheng was often sick. His
mother called to ask for leave from time to time to take the child to the
doctor, until she felt somewhat embarrassed in asking for more days off. At the
end of the second semester, I realized that Hongcheng had not seen a doctor for
quite some time and had gone without medicine. Every day after class, people in the school could see a man surrounded by a
group of children, small hands in a big hand, going towards the gate happily. I
am not sure when it started, and the sound they made wasn't laughter and chatter
but beautiful voices reciting Hong Yin. July 25, 2005
