"Greeting the Spring Wind with a Smile"
Written by Dafa practitioner in Mainland China
(Clearwisdom.net) In April 2001, police arrested Dafa practitioner Chen Jing from Zhuhai City
while she was distributing truth-clarifying materials and interrogated her
continuously for 7 days. During that time, the police didn't even allow Ms. Chen
Jing to sleep and kept her under the glare of bright lights. In the end, they
didn't get any information, so they detained Ms. Chen Jing in the Second
Detention Center of Zhuhai City. Ms. Chen Jing used to be a fine arts teacher in an elementary school in
Zhuhai City. She has very good calligraphy and painting skills and is very
capable. If Jiang's regime had not persecuted Falun Dafa, she could have
continued her teaching career. At that time, there was another practitioner
named Ms. Zhang Qingyun who was detained with Ms. Chen. Ms. Zhang was among the
practitioners who were detained since December 2000 (this group of practitioners
was made up of 10 people, including 6 graduates of Qinghua University, and they
were separately detained in the First and Second Detention Center in Zhuhai
City). Placed in this difficult situation, with the assistance of outside
practitioners, these detained practitioners were able to get precious Dafa
books, including Zhuan Falun and Essentials for Further Advancement.
What was more extraordinary was that when outside practitioners wrote letters to
detained practitioners, they openly included Master Li's articles, such as
"Deciphering the Last Three Stanzas of the Plum Blossom Poem" and the
poem "The Chill of Autumn's Winds." At that time, the letters were
mainly monitored by a criminal inmate designated as the cell head. Their cell
head was clear-minded, and she said that she liked to read these letters,
especially the poems. Maybe the cell head didn't realize that due to her kind
thought, her case that could have resulted in a death sentence turned into a
15-year jail sentence, which even surprised her lawyer. Before the Chinese New Year in 2002, the cells were asked to participate in a
bulletin board design contest. The cell head knew that she had to ask for help
from the two practitioners Ms. Chen Jing and Zhang Qingyun because Ms. Chen Jing
was good at painting and Ms. Zhang Qingyun was good at calligraphy. At that
time, the two practitioners thought that they could work on it, but they had to
decide on the content. Some practitioners had mailed them a New Year card with a
picture of plum blossoms that practitioners had beautifully painted. Therefore,
Ms. Chen Jing used the cardboard of an instant noodle box as the base color and
then she used pencils and pen to paint the boughs of the plum tree, which
closely resembled a genuine plum tree. They made the plum blossoms with small
pieces of red cloth. This plum blossom tree was painted so beautifully that
everyone felt happy upon seeing it. At the top of the poster were the words:
"Greeting the Spring Wind with a Smile." The two practitioners wrote
an antithetical couplet in calligraphy and pasted it on the wall. The upper
couplet read: "The windstorm continues through the night, but there is no
need to worry," and the other couplet read: "Dots of plum blossoms
herald the arrival of spring in Heaven and on Earth." After Ms. Zhang
Qingyun finished writing the characters, they pasted the couplet onto the wall.
Everyone in the cell felt happy and they enjoyed the paintings, calligraphy, and
content. In fact, the content of the antithetical couplet was from Master Li's
article - "Deciphering the Last Three Stanzas of the Plum Blossom
Poem." An even more amazing incident happened afterward. One day, a bird few into
the cell through a window and landed on a branch of the plum blossom tree. The
bird stayed there and didn't want to leave. It stayed there, chirping and
looking about for quite a long time. Everyone was filled with joy at the sight.
It seemed that the bird thought that the plum tree in the painting was a real
tree. Written on July 7, 2005
