RFA: American Falun Gong Practitioners Call on Hu Jintao to Immediately Release Charles Li

(Clearwisdom.net) According to Radio Free Asia's report on September 13, 2005, Chinese-American Falun Gong practitioner Charles Li was arrested and sentenced to prison when he returned to China. It's been two and a half years now. An American Falun Gong (Friends of Charles Li) spokesperson called on Hu Jintao, who came to New York to attend the UN World Summit, to immediately release Charles Li and stop the persecution of Falun Gong.

Falun Gong practitioner Charles Li resided in Menlo Park, in the San Francisco Bay area. On January 22, 2003, he was arrested at the Guangzhou Baiyun Airport on a trip to his hometown of Yangzhou City, Jiangsu Province. The Yangzhou Court sentenced Charles Li to 3 years in prison on March 22 in the name of "Sabotaging broadcasting and television". Since then, Charles has been incarcerated in Nanjing Prison.

After Charles Li was imprisoned, San Francisco Falun Gong practitioners established an organization named, "Friends of Charles Li". They have been working very hard to call for the rescue of Charles Li. When Hu Jintao arrived in New York to attend the U.N. World Summit, Sherry Zhang from "Friends of Charles Li" accepted an interview from this reporter.

Sherry Zhang said, "My friend Charles Li is a Chinese-American. He has been imprisoned for two years and eight months in China. He has been mistreated all along. He was beaten when he was arrested. Up to the present, he has not only been beaten up and mistreated, but he also has to endure brainwashing. He is not allowed to touch any information related to Falun Gong and he is not allowed to practice the Falun Gong exercises."

Charles Li's fiancé Yeong-ching Foo expressed that over the past more than two years, Charles Li almost died from the torture in the prison. Charles wasn't allowed to attend his mother's funeral when his mother passed away.

Sherry said, "We call on Hu Jintao to immediately release all Falun Gong practitioners, including Charles Li. We have been trying our best to rescue him and wish he will be able to reunite with his fiancé Yeong-ching as soon as possible."

Sherry also pointed out that over the past more than two years during Hu's tenure as the head of CCP, the inhuman persecution of Falun Gong has still been going on.

Sherry said, "Of course we have been observing Hu Jintao. What I want to tell Hu Jintao is: He must decide to stop this persecution. If he allows it to continue, he would also commit crimes and he would be one of the murderers!"

Prior to Hu Jintao's arrival in the U.S., 30 Falun Gong practitioners, including Yeong-ching Foo published an open letter to demand the release of their family members who are imprisoned in China due to their practice of Falun gong. Since September 12, Yeong-ching Foo and other practitioners have been holding a hunger strike in front of U.N. Headquarters in New York to urge the Chinese communist regime to stop the persecution of Falun Gong.
