Sixteen-year-old High School Student Sun Yanpei Held by Shandong Province 610 Office for Over Two Weeks (Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Sun Yanpei, a student from the No. 1 High School of Zhaoyuan City, Shandong Province, has been held by the Zhaoyuan 610 Office for more than two weeks. She is currently being detained in an isolated building of the Nanling Southern Gold Mine in Taishang Village, Linglong Town. In order to conceal their illegal activities, the authorities have labeled the building as the "Legal Education and Training Center," but it is actually a brainwashing center where Falun Gong practitioners are persecuted.
Ms. Sun Yanpei, 16, is a student in the eleventh grade. Despite the fact that her parents were severely persecuted, she did very well at school and academically she ranked second highest of all tenth grade students on the city's standard test at the end of the last school year. Her father, Mr. Sun Guo, was sentenced to four years in prison in the provincial prison because he clarified the truth about the persecution of Falun Gong. Sun Yanpei's mother had suffered from multiple diseases before practicing Falun Gong and became healthy afterwards. Because Sun Yanpei's mother did not want to give up her belief in Falun Dafa, she was forced to become homeless for almost four years in order to avoid arrest and harassment.
Sun Yanpei was abducted from her school by the 610 officials on August 11, 2005. Witnesses told the 610 officials, "This child's character is superb, and her GPA is excellent. Don't ruin her." The Zhaoyuan 610 officials said, "It won't affect the school to lose one good student."
The high school did not inform Sun Yanpei's family about her arrest until her uncle called her teacher on August 14, a school holiday. Yanpei had not been home for three days.
As early as July 2002, the deputy head of the 610 Office and Song Shuqin, the head of Linglong Brainwashing Center, had planned to send the then 13-year-old Sun Yanpei to the brainwashing center after forcing her mother into a homeless situation. They also asked Sun Yanpei for 1,800 yuan. Yanpei dared not go home during the entire summer holiday. On February 6, 2004, the Spring Festival holiday, two 610 officials accosted the family and wanted to search their home but did not succeed. Because the authorities constantly threatened and accosted the family, Sun Yanpei's grandmother began to suffer from mental disorders and is no longer able to independently manage her own daily life.
Sun Yanpei is currently detained at Lingnan Gold Mine Brainwashing Center in Zhaoyuan City. The authorities have threatened her and questioned her regarding her mother's whereabouts. They also tried to force her to write the Three Statements to renounce her belief in Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance (the principles of Falun Dafa). Sun Yanpei has been on a hunger strike in protest and has demanded that they release her unconditionally and send her back to school. Her family also went to the 610 Office and demanded that Ms. Sun be returned to them. However, the officials refuse to release Sun Yanpei.
