Staff Member Severely Persecuted and Dies Under Suspicious Circumstances at Jilin's Northeast Normal University

(Clearwisdom.net) A virtually unknown persecution incident took place at Northeast Normal University (NENU) in 2001 in Changchun City, Jilin Province. Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Guan used to work in the editorial department of the university's publication "Physics Experiments." Following his illegal detention, people noticed that he always had his head bandaged and that he could not speak coherently. Still, the authorities did not stop persecuting him. He was later found dead at the base of a building. We are not certain at this stage how he fell and hope those who know will provide more information. Following is his story.

Mr. Guan died in 2001 at the age of 33. Because of practicing Falun Gong, he lost his military position and was demoted to civilian work. He got a job in the editorial department of "Physics Experiments" at NENU. He had a good reputation and was well-liked.

In 2000, when he went to Beijing to clarify the truth and to validate Dafa, he was arrested. After he was released, he exhibited signs of mental trauma. People around him said that after he returned home, his head was always "wrapped up" and he spoke incoherently. It is possible he was injected with drugs that damaged the central nervous system.

As we did not have more detailed information regarding the case, we did not publicly report the case in the past.

Practitioner Mr. Bai Xiaojun, a young lecturer in the Department of Philosophy at NENU, was illegally detained for a year after he went to Beijing to appeal for justice for Falun Gong in July 2000. In January 2002, after he had served seven months beyond his term, he was taken to the Xinglongshan Brainwashing Center in Changchun City. Mr. Bai was later detained in the Chaoyanggou Forced Labor Camp, where he died as a result of persecution on July 18, 2003. This case was widely known among Dafa practitioners in Changchun and the general public.

Since July 22, 1999, when the Chinese Communist regime began persecuting Falun Gong, some members of the CCP committees at NENU and its colleges and departments, as well as its affiliated schools, have severely persecuted Falun Dafa practitioners. They compelled students, teachers, and general staff members to hand in their Dafa books and write "guarantee statements," and they unlawfully searched practitioners' dormitories and homes. They further sent practitioners to brainwashing centers, expelled them from the university, stripped them of their employment, imposed fines on them, and confiscated their home registrations. These officials also collaborated with the police to send practitioners to forced labor camps, detention centers, and brainwashing centers.

These acts, committed in violation of the Chinese constitution, have caused practitioners and their families great physical suffering and mental anguish, making their lives very hard. They also forced students to watch Dafa-slandering videos and to sign their names to support the persecution.

Since December 2002, Liu Haimin, deputy Party Committee secretary of the CCP Committee at NENU, has been involved in the persecution. He clamoured at a university assembly, "It is strictly forbidden to recruit students or teaching staff who are Falun Gong practitioners. Whichever school or department recruits Falun Gong students or teaching staff assumes full responsibility for their actions."

Lecturer Mr. Bai Xiaojun was tortured to death. Ms. Wang Huilian, a 32-year-old lecturer in the School of Environmental Science, was illegally sentenced to forced labor and suffered brutal persecution at the Heizuizi Forced Labor Camp. Mr. Ma Guohua, a 36-year-old library employee, was suspended from his employment for refusing to write a guarantee statement to abandon Falun Dafa. Ms. Li Haizhen, a 40-year-old lecturer in the School of Foreign Languages at NENU, was transferred elsewhere for refusing to write the guarantee statements. Ms. Li Yan, a 37-year-old physics teacher from the NENU-Affiliated High School, was transferred. Ms. Li had been praised as one of the "Ten Best Science Teachers" in Changchun City for many years. They demoted her to teaching assistant for refusing to write a guarantee statement.
