Ms. Deng Jianmei Still Tortured at Harbin Women's Prison Despite Being in Critical Condition

(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Deng Jianmei is currently detained at the Harbin Women's Prison (also known as Heilongjiang Province Women's Prison). At around 10:00 a.m. on January 9, 2006, Ms. Deng's family was able to visit her. As Ms. Deng sat on a stool talking to her family, the guards kept close watch. Ms. Deng was so weak that she fainted just a few minutes after the meeting began. Her family requested that the prison release her on bail for medical treatment. The relevant prison personnel as well as those of the prison administration bureau shifted their responsibilities onto each other and disregarded the tenants of basic humanity.

Ms. Deng Jianmei is a Dafa practitioner from Daqing City, Heilongjiang Province. After the persecution of Falun Dafa began in July 1999, she was repeatedly illegally arrested and fired from her job because of her belief. Her husband divorced her and she was forced to become homeless to avoid further persecution. On the night of October 31, 2002, over 20 police vehicles trapped Ms. Deng Jianmei and some other Falun Gong practitioners in the Donghu residential area. After beating the practitioners, the police took them to the Daqing City Detention Center and tortured them.

On January 27, 2003, Ms. Deng Jianmei was illegally sentenced to seven years of imprisonment by the Ranghulu District Court. In the Harbin Women's Prison, she was forced sit on a cement floor for six months. The perpetrators assaulted her breasts and kicked her private areas. She was detained in a small cell and beaten with clubs and batons. The perpetrators pinched her eyelids with tweezers and sprayed detergent in her eyes so that it soaked into the open wounds that they themselves had inflicted. Between 2004 and 2005, because she went on a hunger strike to protest, the guards ordered the prisoners to beat her. Two of her front teeth were knocked out when she was force-fed.

On March 21, 2005, Zhao Yingling and Zhao Huihua, the head and deputy head of the prison hospital, led more than ten guards and more than twenty inmates to pin down Ms. Deng Jianmei and other Dafa practitioners and to draw large amounts of blood from them. Because of the wanton persecution and long-term psychological torture conducted by the Harbin Women's Prison, 40-year-old Deng Jianmei had a heart attack. After that her body trembled constantly.

Regarding the family's appeals and request, the Harbin Women's Prison and the related departments did not consider them seriously, nor find a solution, but shifted the responsibility back and forth between each other. Herein, we appeal to kind-hearted people all over the world, and to international human rights organizations to show concern about this matter. Ms. Deng Jianmei should be released unconditionally.
