Paralyzed Woman Who Gained a New Life from Falun Dafa Passes Away as a Result of Persecution

A paralyzed woman who lived in the countryside of Jilin Province miraculously recovered after practicing Falun Gong. However, she was cruelly tortured to death amidst the persecution.

Ms. Xia Yufang, 36 years old, lived at the Fourth Group, in Huadian Village, Huadian Town, Ji'an City, Jilin Province. Her entire body had been paralyzed since she was 20. She was bedridden and could not even move her teeth. Her body was reduced to skin and bones. The feces and urine she excreted were stuck to her body with nobody to assist her day to day living. Her back bone was rotten and filled with bed sores where maggots dwelled. In fact, she was very close to death, and the only thing she could do was wait to die, because it was physically impossible for her to commit suicide.

Xia Yongfang's parents were both over 70 years old and they were also seriously ill. Despite their illnesses, they still worked daily out on the farm. Her parents were already in a lot of debt from trying different methods to treat her illness. She had been suffering from severe physical hardships for as many as 13 years. By the time she learned Falun Gong, her family had already lost all hope for her.

Falun Dafa was introduced to the family in 1997. Upon seeing the book Zhuan Falun, Xia Yongfang's face was full of tears. The book represented her life's hope.

In the beginning, Xia Yongfang asked others to hold the book for her to read. Later, she could move her arms and read the book by herself. Initially, her entire body could not move. Then she could turn over to read the book. Finally, she could sit up and read. When she could sit up, she started to learn the sitting meditation. Miracle after miracle occurred. Gradually, she could get off the bed, practice the standing exercises and take care of herself. She could also do some housework. Her parents' illnesses all disappeared too. The whole family was very grateful to Falun Dafa.

In 1999, Jiang's regime and the CCP started the persecution of Falun Gong. Xia Yufang and her fellow practitioners wrote a long letter to Jiang Zemin. In the letter, they used their own experiences to describe the miracle and beauty of Falun Dafa.

The appeal letter provoked the Tonghua Regional Police Department, County Police Department and local police station to ransack Xia Yongfang's home and confiscate her Falun Gong books. Xia Yongfang cried and told them of her changes after practicing Falun Gong. She also showed them the medical aid and the support stand she used for urinating when she was paralyzed.

In the latter days, with the CCP's frenzied persecution of Falun Dafa, the local police unceasingly harassed her again and again, trying to force her to stop practicing Falun Gong. In 2003, her elderly mother was arrested for clarifying the truth of Falun Gong. Under the Jiang regime's continual and extensive harassment, and suffering deeply with the grief and indignation of her mother being persecuted, Xia Yongfang passed away at 5 p.m. on January 14, 2003 (lunar calendar).
