Ms. Li Xiuyun, 79 years old, was from the Jijing District of Qingdao City in Shandong Province. She started practicing Falun Gong in 1997. Since the persecution of Falun Gong started, she did everything that a Falun Gong practitioner should do such as validating the Fa and clarifying the truth. On the night of August 2, 2002, her husband and son were illegally arrested by police for distributing truth clarifying flyers on the streets and hanging up banners. The unlawful authorities also searched her home, harassed and threatened her. Ms Li was frightened and finally passed away on December 1, 2003, after severe mental blows.

Mr. Wang Pingshen, 63, was from Yunyang County in Chongqing City. He was a retired teacher from the Yunyang County Teachers' College. He started to practice Falun Gong in 1996. Since the persecution of Falun Gong by the Communist regime started in 1999, the county 610 Office and political maintenance section of the police department often illegally monitored and harassed him. In October 2000, they searched his house without a permit and unlawfully held him for more than 10 days at the county detention center. They released him after he paid a fine of 200 yuan. In 2001, they unlawfully searched his house again and detained him for more than 40 days. He was only released after paying a fine of 10,000 yuan. Afterwards, Mr. Wang Pingshen was subjected to extreme pressure by the authorities, and his health deteriorated. He passed away in 2003.

Mr. Gan Guoping, 41 years old, was a practitioner from Neijiang City, Sichuan Province. He went to appeal at the Beijing National Appeals Office and to clarify the truth about Falun Gong in December 2000. He was arrested by the Beijing authorities who notified his local 610 Office. Mr. Gan was brought back to the Neijiang Detention Center. During his detention, he was tortured and harassed by the police, and he was forced to pay the travel expenses of the 610 officers and police for bringing him back. The total cost was several thousand yuan. Mr. Gan's wages were quite low, and his wife was unemployed. They deducted money from his wages for one year, and that caused great difficulties for his family. After he was released, the 610 Office ordered his work unit to monitor him.

Since Mr. Gan was determined in practicing Falun Gong, the police department, the local police station, the street/neighborhood watch and other related departments went to his house and harass him on all "important" occasions. Every time, about 20 people ransacked his house. The police also had an arrest warrant and wanted to take Mr. Gan to a brainwashing center. Mr. Gan and his wife refused to be persecuted and reasoned with these people. In the end, the street and neighbourhood watch authorities were speechless and only the police searched the house. The rest of the group did not touch anything. Under practitioners' righteous thoughts, the authorities spent most of the day harassing them but did not reach their goal.

The day before the Communist Party's 16th People's Congress, Mr. Gan was arrested again at work by police officers from the Middle District Police Substation in Neijiang City. He was unlawfully held for about a month at a detention center. His wife went to the police station many times to ask for his release. She was told that he would only be released after the 16th People's Congress had successfully finished.

During the persecution, Mr. Gan Guoping suffered severely both mentally and physically. In December 2004, he started to spit blood, showed blood in his stools, and had an accumulation of abdominal fluid. When his relatives took him to the hospital for a checkup, he was diagnosed with terminal cirrhosis of the liver. After staying in the hospital for half a month, he returned home. He continued to study the Fa and practice the exercises, and continued to do what a Falun Gong practitioner should. Within a month, he regained his health. After he clarified the truth to the doctors, the doctors were amazed at the miracle of Falun Gong.

But due to continuous harassment by the related departments, Mr. Gan eventually succumbed to the constant pressure and terror. On the evening of December 16, 2005, the same symptoms recurred, and he passed away on the afternoon of December 17, 2005.
