Taiwan: Taichung City Council Resolution Condemns Organ Harvesting in China
(Clearwisdom.net) During a recent meeting of the Taichung City Council,
33 councilors cosponsored a resolution entitled "Condemn the Chinese
Communist Regime for Persecuting Falun Gong Practitioners and Illegally
Trafficking in Human Organs". The resolution was passed unanimously. Before this resolution, councils of eleven other counties and cities,
including Yunling county, Pingtung county, Chiayi county, Hualien County, Ilan
County, Penghu County, Hsinchu County, Changhwa county and Keelung city have
passed similar resolutions to condemn the Chinese Communist regime's atrocities
of harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners. Regarding the reported atrocities of harvesting organs from Falun Gong
practitioners detained in concentration camps and then cremating the remains to
destroy evidence, the resolution called on the United Nations, international
human rights organizations and the WHO to go into China to investigate the
claims, urge the Chinese Communist regime to stop such atrocities, and require
the Taichung city government to educate residents more on ethical issues and
medical service quality issues involved in organ transplantation in Mainland
China. Councilor Mr. Tseng said: "We express our strongest protest to the
Chinese Communist Party (CCP) for its persecution of Falun Gong practitioners.
Moreover, the organ harvesting practice is inhumane. Taiwan shall ban citizens
from going to Mainland for organ transplants of this kind. This is our unanimous
resolution and we all share this view. Our council will continue to support
Falun Gong practitioners." Councilor Mr. Wu pointed out that democratic countries always respect human
rights while this is a fundamental issue that developing countries should pay
attention to. Therefore, the Council always responds to human rights calls and
fights for human rights. Councilor Mr. Lu called on the United Nations to investigate this issue. He
said that the UN's responsibility is to safeguard human dignity and it should
pass a resolution mandating an investigation in China. Councilor Mr. Wang said that such improper and immoral practices should be
stopped. Former Canadian Secretary of State for Asian Pacific David Kilgour recently
paid a visit to Taiwan. On October 11, Mr. Kilgour said at a press conference
that a total of 18 pieces of evidence were examined, which all suggest that the
Chinese Communist regime is using Falun Gong practitioners as an organ bank so
that it can supply organs to buyers worldwide in a very short time. Practitioner Mr. Jan attended the council meeting. He told the councilors
that the "Coalition to Investigate the Persecution of Falun Gong in
China" has been established to perform an independent investigation in
China and overseas and the coalition has requested the Chinese Communist regime
to open all facilities, including labor camps, prisons, detention centers and
hospitals which have been used to detain Falun Gong practitioners in the past 7
years for investigation. Mr. Jan said that practitioners hope that more
governments and individuals will take action to uphold justice and support the
investigation. Posting date: 10/16/2006
