Taiwan Cross Party Legislators Initialize Bill to Investigate the Chinese Communist Party's Live Organ Harvesting (Photo)

(Clearwisdom.net) A bill asking the Government Administration to provide a budget for activities related to investigating the Chinese Communist Party’s live organ harvesting crimes passed the Legislative Body of Taiwan on September 26, 2006. One of the legislators, Ms. Huang Chao-Shun, said on September 29 that the Chinese Communist Party’s (CCP) live organ harvesting practice is an inhuman practice. She believes that international organizations must get involved to investigate it. President of the Falun Dafa Association in Taiwan, professor Chang Qingxi, expressed appreciation for legislators who co-signed the bill.

Ms. Huang from the KMT party at first wanted to initialize the bill with legislator Lai Qing-Te from the Democratic Progressive Party, but it was put off due to lack of time. The bill received 108 co-signers from legislators from multiple parties.

Huang stated that taking organs from living people violates the ethics of medical science and international organizations, and violates human rights. She said that if we don’t deal with it actively, the number of living organ extractions and transplantations will increase quickly in the near future. This is a huge human rights issue. She said, "We hope that the international community will discuss it and be aware of it so as to eradicate such bad practices."

Another legislator from the KMT party, Mr. Chiu Ching-Chun, said that he was upset about the CCP’s live organ harvesting. He said that he knew that many patients went to Guangzhou’s hospitals to have organ transplant surgery. He requested that the Chinese Communist Party stop such activities immediately.

Legislator Yang Jen-Fu said that he would support any bill that was related to human rights. He said that the CCP’s behavior on organ harvesting is terrible, and all countries must pay attention to the issue.

Lai Ching-Te from the DPP party requested the Legislative Body to approve a budget for Taiwanese people to hear accurate information on organ transplantation. He said that using forcibly extracted organs from Mainland China to use on Taiwanese patients will hurt the country’s image in the world. Lai also requested the Legislative Body to invite members of the Canadian Parliament or others who investigated the case to visit Taiwan and help people to learn the facts.

From a website of the Chinese Organ Transplant Hospital, the waiting period can be as short as one week and the longest would not exceed one month. Many Taiwanese patients went to China to get transplanted organs. Huang said that the waiting time in Taiwan is long, but we can’t use such inhumane methods to facilitate the transplants.

Chang Ching-Xi said that it looked like China has organs for patients, but the doctors are killing to get the organs. This is the opposite of what a doctor should be doing to save lives.

Chang also agreed with Huang that the number of organ harvest cases would increase without intervention. He said that the CCP also realized that this business can’t last long, so they may want to sell more organs to cash in quickly.

Chang thanked the legislators from multiple parties for co-signing the bill. He said that Taiwan has valued human rights for a long time. After the bill is passed, he hopes that it will help pressure the CCP to address their human rights issues.

Chang also said that if the Legislative Body can invite the two Canadian investigators in this case to come to Taiwan, it will bring more accurate information to the Taiwanese people.

Ms. Wei, a Falun Gong practitioner, said that as the CCP’s crimes of organ harvesting are exposed to the world, if Taiwan's medical departments don’t properly provide accurate information to the Taiwanese people, it is a form of passively condoning the persecution. She said that the Government Administration should educate the people on this topic.
