Mother-in-law and Daughter-in-law Seriously Ill in Detention; Money Extorted from Their Family Members

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioners Ms. Hu Xinyuan and her daughter-in-law, Ms. Gong Liya, from Jin City, Hunan Province, are imprisoned in Jin City Detention Center and Changsha Women's Prison respectively. Ms. Hu is suffering from symptoms caused by pulmonary emphysema, heart disease, and pulmonary tuberculosis. Ms. Gong is suffering from the relapse of previous diseases. The police are taking advantage of their ill health by extorting money from their families.

The police from Jin City Police Station took the two women into custody the night of December 20, 2005. On the morning of May 12, 2006, the police handcuffed them and took them to Jin City Court for a secret trial. Family members were not notified. On May 26, 2006, Jin City Court illegally sentenced them to three and half years in prison.

On the morning of October 11, 2006, the head of the Jin City Detention Center, Chen Quanda, and female police officer Zhou Mi transfered Ms. Hu and Ms. Gong to Changsha Women's Prison.

During the mandatory medical examination prior to being admitted into the prison, Hu Xinyun was diagnosed with pulmonary emphysema, heart disease, pulmonary tuberculosis, along with other ailments. She was not admitted into the prison. She is currently imprisoned in Jin City Detention Center.

Chen Quanda and Zhou Mi demanded that Ms. Hu's family pay two thousand yuan when they asked the police to release her. Initially the detention center told her family to take their request to the Political Protection Office. The Political Protection Office said that they had already passed the case onto the court. The court stated that they had already issued a sentence and the detention center should solve the problem themselves. Chen Daquan told Ms. Hu's family that the two thousand yuan would be confiscated or else they would send her back to prison. Although her family has no income, the family tried all available means known to them to collect two thousand yuan. The money, which was paid to the detention center, was confiscated.

Before practicing Falun Dafa, Ms. Gong suffered from many diseases, such as pyelonephritis, pulmonary tuberculosis, hepatitis, angina, and coryza, along with other ailments. After practicing Falun Gong, she recovered from those diseases without any medical treatment. Now she is suffering in Changsha Women's Prison from a relapse of these diseases. The prison demanded that Ms. Gong's family pay for her medical treatment.
