In A Few Words: Cultivating Our Hearts When Facing Conflicts

(Clearwisdom.net) Cultivation has entered the period of Fa-rectification, and therefore we as Falun Dafa practitioners should become even more god-like. In the meantime, we should not think highly of ourselves or regard anything about ourselves as great; otherwise, we might neglect our cultivation. When conflicts occur in our interpersonal relationships, especially those with family members or fellow practitioners, we should not feel resentment, but rather cultivate ourselves with sincerity.

First, we must understand, trust, and tolerate others. We should maintain hearts of compassion in all our interactions. If other people make inappropriate remarks, we should not get angry. Their words either allow us to repay what we owed them in the past or help us get rid of our karma. Even if the others are truly in the wrong, there is no need to get angry. To feel happy is an emotion, and to become angry is even more of an emotion, one we need to abandon through cultivation if we have not already discarded it. If we have conflicts with non-practitioners, we must remember that they have their own destinies. If we have conflicts with fellow practitioners, we should not place any demands on them because they must follow their own paths of cultivation.

Second, when we see the shortcomings of others, we need to look for the cause of our own shortcomings, since everything that happens to us is the result of our own thoughts. Even when a third party sees a conflict between others, he should look within himself, rather than just at the parties involved. Everyone around us is part of our cultivation environment. If we hear nothing but kind words and flattery all day, how can we cultivate? It is only in situations of conflict that cultivators can assess their true status.

Venting anger on others, or cultivating our hearts: this is the dividing line between non-practitioners and cultivators.
