In a Few Words: Minding our Speech Requires Cultivation of Our Heart
(Clearwisdom.net) Most Dafa disciples in the Fa-rectification period know the importance of minding their speech. They know what to say and what not to say. They measure everything with the Fa. However, there are a few practitioners who only pay lip service to minding their speech. In reality, they talk about things that shouldn't be talked about. For instance, they spread hearsay, talk about people behind their backs, or disclose information about truth-clarification material sites.
Teacher said in Lecture Eight Zhuan Falun, "When a person’s mind generates a thought, or it leads him to say something or do something, or when it directs his sensory organs or his four limbs, that in itself could be the kind of attachment ordinary people have. For example, the different ideas people have, "You’re good," "He’s not good," "You’ve cultivated well," "He hasn’t cultivated well," and so on, all of these in and of themselves cause tension between people. Even in everyday scenarios, like "I want to do such and such," or "It should be done in such-and-such a way," even there maybe you’ve hurt someone without realizing it. Since the tensions people have are so complicated it’s possible you’ve unknowingly made karma." Why can't some practitioners mind their speech? It's because of their attachments to showing off, zealotry, jealousy, etc. If we just try to mind our speech for the sake of minding our speech, then we can't really do well. Only by studying the Fa well, looking within, and removing our attachments can we truly achieve the state of minding our speech.
