He was charged with "disturbing the social order" and was illegally detained in Jintangwan Detention Center for 15 days. After he came back, agents from the university 610 Office put him under house arrest and forced him to attend several brainwashing "transformation" sessions held at the university. Around December 26, 2000, agents from the university security office intercepted Mr. Hu on the road for no reason. He was arrested and sent to Changsha Xinkaipu Forced Labor Camp for one year. They stopped giving him his retirement pension. In 2002, after he came back from the forced labor camp, personnel from the university 610 Office continuously harassed Mr. and Mrs. Hu.
