Historical Tale: Jiang Xinkui Teaches a Heavenly Principle Through Death of His Son

(Clearwisdom.net) During the 54^th Year of Emperor Qianlong's reign, Jiang Xinhui became the governor of Yiliang County in Diannan. A murder took place in the county. The victim was from a poor family. The person who had committed the murder was from a wealthy and powerful family, which offered to bribe Jiang Xinhui to make the case go away. Jiang refused to accept the bribe, but his son accepted the bribe secretly without telling him about it.

Several months later, the Jiang family planned to build a garden. The son went to the mountain with others to collect stones for the garden. A large rock fell on him, and he died instantly. Jiang Xinhui was heartbroken. Then someone told him about how his son had accepted the bribe secretly. Jiang gradually got over his grief. He decided not to hide what his son had done and instead let people talk about it openly.

There is a Chinese idiom, "Dirty family secrets shouldn't be exposed to the outside." Even though Jiang Xinhui loved his son, he understood the principles of how to be a human being even more and wanted to use what had happened to his son to promote the principle of "good is rewarded with good, and evil is met with evil."
