Falun Gong Practitioners Arrested in Hegang and Jiamusi Cities in Heilongjiang Province

1. In Hegang City, Falun Gong practitioners have been arrested

On the morning of March 22, 2006, practitioner Ms. Xie Xiurong, a woman in her fifties from Gongnong Area of Hegang City, was illegally arrested in her own home by four policemen. Three other practitioners were also arrested that day while distributing Falun Gong truth clarification materials. More information will become available as this investigation progresses.

During the National People's Congress and Political Consultation Conference, practitioners Mr. Zhao Dezhi, a man in his thirties, and Ms. Tang Guirong, a woman around forty-five from the Xingshang District of Hegang City, were arrested. Ms. Tang Guirong had been previously arrested on September 7, 2005 while she was attending an experience-sharing meeting, which was also attended by more than 50 other practitioners living in Hegang City. Ms. Guirong was detained for over four months. Two months after her release, she was arrested again.

2. Mr. Shang Xiping, a practitioner from Hua'nan County of Jiamusi City has been transferred from Hegang City 2nd Detention Center to Hegang City 1st Detention Center. Five other practitioners are also currently detained at Hegang City 1st Detention Center. They include Mr. Shang Xiping, Zhang Junying, Ms. Hu Guijie, Ms. Zhao Guiyou and Ms. Li Liping, from Daqing City. Hegang City practitioner Yang Yongying is currently detained at Hegang City 2nd Detention Center. The perpetrators plan to put these practitioners on trial.

3. Yi Haizhu, a Jiamusi City practitioner, has been brutally tortured. Haizhu has been on a hunger strike for over twenty days and has been sent to a hospital for emergency treatment.
