German Department of Economic Cooperation and Development Pays Attention to the Persecution of Falun Gong

(Clearwisdom.net) Since the end of last year, when the new German Government came into power, Falun Gong practitioners in Germany have been writing letters to all departments and members of Parliament telling them about Falun Gong being persecuted in China. Ms. Wieczorek-Zeul, the Minister of the Department of Economic Cooperation and Development, asked one of her staff members to write a letter on her behalf to Falun Gong practitioners on the 31st of January 2006. The following is the letter:

Thank you very much for your letter dated the 19th January 2006 about the Chinese Government's infringing on the human rights of Falun Gong practitioners. Ms. Wieczorek-Zeul, the Minister of the Department of Economic Cooperation and Development, has received the letter and asked me to write back on her behalf.

The respect of religions and freedom of conscience has been all along one of the basic points of problems about human rights and is at same time the basic requirement of German politics. The German Government has long before known about the improper measures the Chinese Communist Party has taken against Falun Gong and the infringing of their most basic human rights. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany has strongly condemned the current way of taking the persecution of Falun Gong as the norm in China. During bilateral talks, representatives of the German Government have consulted with Chinese leaders about human rights many times and tried hard to look for a way to settle the focus cases to which the public is paying attention.

For several years, Germany has been engaging in dialogue with China on the problem of human rights. During the bilateral talks on human rights on the 30th of May 2005, the German Government mentioned the problem of [the persecution of] Falun Gong. As part of the European Union, which also has dialogues with China, Ms. Wieczore-Zeul has been trying her best to improve the human rights situation in China.

Dear [practitioner's name omitted], I assure you that the German Government will spare no effort in firmly maintaining human rights. At the same time, no matter what setbacks Ms. Wieczore-Zeul, the minister, encounters, she will continue trying her best to make human rights respected the world over.

Yours sincerely,
