Radio France International: World Health Organization Conducts Investigation into Accusation that the CCP Harvested Organs from Living Falun Gong Practitioners

(Clearwisdom.net) On the evening of April 23, 2006, "People and Society," a Chinese program by Radio France International broadcast to China, broadcast the interview with World Health Organization (WHO) Clinical Procedure Coordinator Mr. Noel. He discussed the organ transplant issue in China. The following are excerpts from the interview:

Reporter: in last episode of "People and Society" we introduced the issue of overseas media's report of China's selling the organs of prisoners on death row. We also asked a Chinese reporter under the pseudo-name of Jin Zhong to talk about his investigation of the Thrombus Hospital of Integrated Chinese and Western Medicine in Sujiatun, Shenyang. We contacted the World Health Organization many times and hoped to learn its view about China's organ transplant situation. However, Mr. Noel, who is in charge of the work of organ transplant could not accept an interview by us because he was on a business trip. In today's episode, we will broadcast an interview with WHO Clinical Procedure Coordinator Mr. Noel.

Reporter: According to Le Figaro, WHO said that foreigners can go to China to buy organs, especially from those who on death row. Can you confirm the statement?

Noel: Everybody knew that. Everybody can see from the website of the agencies on the Internet. Those websites indeed regard organ transplant in China as an attraction. This is what the people said - organ transplant tourism.

Reporter: Some situations are not clear yet. While China's Vice-minister of Public Health, Huang Jiefu, admitted that 900f the organs came from prisoners on death row, the spokesman for the Ministry of Public Health, Mr. Mao, claimed that using the organs of prisoners on death row was a particular phenomenon. What do you think? Falun Gong, forbidden by the CCP, has stated that thousands of Falun Gong practitioners were detained in China and their organs taken. A lot of them were still alive when their organs were taken out. Does the World Health Organization plan to conduct an investigation on the charge? Or it will request Beijing to investigate?

Noel: The accusation was very serious, verification is in progress.

Reporter: Is the verification being performed by the World Health Organization?

Noel: Including verification by the WHO.
