United Press International: China accused of secret organ harvesting
July 6, 2006 The Chinese government stands accused of unethical organ
harvesting in several reports by former military personnel and prisoners. A military doctor, the former wife of a military doctor and
prisoners themselves are among those who have testified that hundreds of Falun
Gong [group] members have had their organs removed and sold by Chinese
authorities, Dr. Wenyi Wang told an audience Wednesday at the National Press
Club. Investigators are also researching the China International
Transplantation Network Assistance Center, a Web site for organ transplants,
which claims that donors can be found within a week and that the organs do not
come from brain dead victims. Dr. Wang grabbed international attention when she was
arrested for publicly denouncing Chinese president Hu Jintao during an April 20
ceremony at the White House. "The civilized world must shout to China," Wang
said, with two recently imprisoned Falun Gong members by her side. Since charges against her were dropped, the pathologist has
spoken against the Chinese government's "genocide" practices in
eradicating a popular non-violent religious movement formed in 1992. "The Chinese government has never valued human
life," Wang said. "We must bear our responsibility in shedding light
on these heinous crimes." |
