Norwegian National Media Reports on CCP's Trade in Organs Harvested from Falun Gong Practitioners

This is the beginning of an article published on the July 7, 2006, on the website of NRK, a Norwegian national media. The article, "Stealing organs from prisoners," is about a report on the organ harvesting in China written by the well known Canadian politician David Kilgour and the respected human rights lawyer David Matas:

Kilgour and Matas point to the difficulty trying to prove the allegations, as a result of them being denied permission to travel to China to do this research. However "everything seems to point to the fact that thousands of prisoners are having their organs removed forcefully without consent, to become items for transplantations. Thereafter the prisoner dies, are cremated and all evidence is removed" according to NRK.

According to NRK, the report further says that "many arrested Falun Gong-practitioners are missing, and nobody knows what happened to them. It is likely that many of these have had their organs removed."

The allegations of organ harvesting "come in the wake of mass arrest and a severe persecution of Falun Gong practitioners these last years." NRK continue saying that since the summer of 1999 "it is believed that many thousands of those practicing the method have been arrested and put in prisons and labour camps."

NRK also pointed to a UN report about torture in China, that states that two thirds of the claimed victims of torture are Falun Gong practitioners and that these last two months, a stream of information has come from Falun Gong itself, about the alleged death transplantations, and where in China these have happened.

However, the real torture is that the world is overlooking the abuses, says Amnesty, which quotes a Chinese Falun Gong practitioner that survived prison and electric shock, according to NRK. Both the Human Rights Watch and Amnesty are quoted by NRK about the persecution of Falun Gong practitioners and the organ harvesting.

The Kilgour-Matas report refers to witnesses. NRK says that in some cases, the relatives of dead Falun Gong practitioners have seen some unexplainable operation scars when they were handed the body. A witness, married to a doctor, told the authors of the report, that her husband had confessed that he had removed the corneas of 2000 Falun Gong prisoners, when he worked at a camp near Shenyang in the North of China. According to the witness, none of the prisoners survived, since other surgeons later removed other organs. Other sources say that it is "a state secret" where the donated organs come from."

Further, "When it comes to organ transplantations, it is in addition a very lucrative business, and Chinese law does not demand that the removal of organs should be voluntary," says NRK, who refer to the report.

The Kilgour-Matas report has also included information from among some messages on the hospital web pages, messages that later have been removed. This "information is supported by a former arrested Falun Gong practitioner, who later managed to get abroad. All of them also reveal stories of brutal maltreatment in Chinese prisons, while others tell stories about Falun Gong prisoners suddenly being removed and that never returned," according to NRK.

NRK describes David Kilgour as a well known Canadian politician, who has in an extensive period of time worked with human rights issues. He has, among some, been engaged in the Darfur case and has now engaged himself in the case about the harvesting of Falun Gong organs. He is a former Secretary of State for Asia-Latin-America and for Asia-Pacific.
