Taiwan: Falun Gong Practitioners Call on Singapore Authorities to Withdraw the Charge against Nine Practitioners, Not to Be An Accomplice of the CCP (Photos)

(Clearwisdom.net) The Singapore authorities illegally charged nine local Falun Gong practitioners on July 14, 2006, because they distributed flyers along a business street and underpass of the MRT on October 22 and 23, 2005. This is another incident in which the Singapore authorities have assisted the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in extending the persecution of Falun Gong outside China. A representative of the Taiwan Falun Dafa Association, Professor Ming Chu-Cheng went to the Singapore Trade Office in Taiwan to deliver a letter of protest, requesting the Singapore government to withdraw the charge and not to be the CCP's accomplice in the persecution of Falun Gong.

Prof. Ming Chu-chung said that these Falun Gong practitioners peacefully distributed truth-clarification materials on October 22nd and 23rd of last year, and then dispersed to their homes. The Singapore authorities dispatched local police to look into the case, but there was not any problem found. Why has there suddenly been a charge brought against them nine months later?

Prof. Ming said that since June this year, there have occurred a series of unfair incidents, from cancelling a practitioner's work permit and attempting to deport her, to bringing charges against several practitioners who distributed truth-clarification materials. He said that Falun Gong practitioners are therefore very worried about the nine practitioners' safety and future situation. If the Singapore government disregards morality and justice and sends them back to Mainland China, these practitioners will face being detained, incarcerated and even being killed. Therefore, fellow practitioners are very much concerned about their situation and request an immediate withdrawal of the charge.

Falun Gong was registered in Singapore as a legal organization in 1996. Prior to the CCP's beginning the persecution on July 20, 1999, Falun Gong was flourishing in Singapore, without encountering any difficulties from the authorities.

Lawyer Wang Fenglan from the Taiwan Falun Gong Human Rights Group, went together with Prof. Ming Chu-chung to the Singapore Trade Office. She said that she is part of a group of law workers who have been voluntarily striving for the human rights of Falun Gong practitioners. From the angle of law workers, they hope that the Singapore government will be able to safeguard its own country's laws, instead of becoming the accomplice of the CCP.

The Singapore Trade Office in Taiwan claimed that the person in charge was not in, but the administrative assistant, Ms. Chen, accepted the letter on his behalf.

The nine Falun Gong practitioners involved appeared in court for the first time on July 14, and they all expressed that they wouldn't plead guilty, and stated that they would make a continuous effort to peacefully protest, until the killing in China is stopped. Practitioners called on the Singapore government to withdraw the charge, and also hope that the Singapore government can truly understand the purpose of Falun Gong practitioners' truth clarification efforts.

Eight of the nine practitioners will be back in court at 9:00 a.m. on July 21, and another practitioner was allowed by the court to extend her court date until August 4, 2006.
