1). Four Kidney Transplants at Angang Tiedong Hospital

2). First Successful Heart Transplant in Anshan

Anshan Daily (reporter: Ba Qian):

News from Angang's main hospital -- the hospital's heart center successfully completed the first heart transplant in Anshan. The patient is recovering well.

Sun Zhen, the director of the heart surgical center at Angang's main hospital announced that Mr. Chang, 58, suffered a diabetes-related coronary. The operation began at 8 a.m., on January 19, 2006. The doctor used standard procedures to remove the "damaged heart." The patient was without a heart for three hours, and specialized heart machines maintained the blood circulation until the new heart arrived. After the new heart reached normal temperature, it beat on its own. The operation lasted six hours and ten minutes. Today, the patient has survived six days since the operation. Breathing is good and the breathing machine has been disconnected.

Media reported that only a few large hospitals in China perform heart transplants. This successful heart transplant was the second one in our province. The other operation was performed at No. 2 Affiliated Hospital, China Medical University.

3). The First Liver Transplant in Anshan Succeeded (May 27, 2005)

Yesterday, on the 6th day after a 38-year-old patient successfully had a liver transplant in Angang Tiedong Hospital, he was able to walk unaided. The hospital staff announced that this was the first successful liver transplant in Anshan.

According to Liu Jisheng, the director of the general surgical department in Angang Tiedong Hospital, the patient felt sick about a month ago, and came to the hospital on May 20th. After tests he was diagnosed as liver carcinoma in situ and it was decided that a liver transplant was imperative. Fortunately, as soon as the patient arrived at the hospital, a donor with a matching liver was found. Director Liu announced that finding a matching liver is not difficult for his hospital. They only need to match blood type, age, and body type.
