Human Rights Commission Chair of City of San Jose Writes to Chinese Embassy, Expressing Deep Concern Regarding the Wellbeing of Falun Gong Practitioners in China

Chair of the Human Rights Commission, City of San Jose, California, wrote a
letter to the Embassy of China in Washington DC to express deep concern
regarding the wellbeing of Falun Gong practitioners in China. City of San Jose June 15, 2006 Subject: To express concern for the current wellbeing of our
county residents' families jailed and missing in China. Dear Consular Officer: The city of San Jose Human Rights Commission wishes to
express our deep concern regarding the wellbeing of three Falun Gong
practitioners in China, who are the families of residents of Santa Clara County.
Information regarding these jailed or missing persons is listed below. We would
like to request your help in getting a report regarding the current whereabouts,
and the living and health conditions of these people. Ms Jian Hua Lu, age 51, resident of Tieling City, Liaoning
Province. Ms Lu formerly lived in San Jose, California from 1992 to 1999, and
returned to China in Dec.1999. Ms Lu was sent to the labor camp between Oct.
2000 and Aug. 2001 because of practicing Falun Gong. Again she has been jailed
in Liao Ning Woman's Prison since Aug.27, 2002. Ms Lu was sentenced to 4 years
because of practicing Falun Gong, and supposed to be released this coming
August. Mr. Zhiming Hu, born in 1972 in Chaoyang, Liaoning Province
graduated from Air Force Engineering University, Xi'an. Mr. Hu was a former
Lieutenant and computer laboratory director at the Air Force Training Equipment
Research Institute in Beijing. Mr.Hu was detained in April 2000 at Beijing West
Mountain detention center because of practicing Falun Gong, and was discharged
from the active military service in May 2000. Mr.Hu was sentenced to four years
in October 2000 without legal proceedings, and imprisoned at Tilan Qiao Prison
in Shanghai. After his release, Mr. Hu worked in a hi-tech company in Beijing,
and has been reported missing since September 2005. Mr. Xiong Huang, born in 1978 in Wanan County, Jiangxi
Province, and began the practice of Falun Gong in 1996. Mr. Huang was arrested
in February 2000 in Beijing because he went to the central government to appeal
against the persecution of Falun Gong. He was sent home from Beijing, and was
sentenced two years in a labor camp under Jiangxi Ji An Security Agency. Mr.
Huang has been reported missing since April 2003. Before he went missing, he was
staying at the reception center of Shanghai Tongji University. The case of Mr.
Huang is also currently listed as a United Nations Emergency Rescue Case. The US
Embassy in China has contacted the China Ministry of Foreign Affairs three times
since last August, asking for information regarding Xiong Huang, but got no
response. As Falun Gong is legally practiced in the US and over 70
other countries, we are deeply concerned regarding the humanitarian crisis in
China as the result of the persecution of Falun Gong. Your cooperation in
finding out information about the persons listed above and forwarding it to the
