An Open Letter to Federal Chancellor Merkel from the German Falun Gong Association

Esteemed German Federal Chancellor Dr. Merkel:

We strongly request that German officials demand an immediate end to the persecution of Falun Gong in China during discussions with their respective official counterparts, during the imminent state visit by Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao to Germany.

It has been seven years during which thousands of Falun Gong practitioners have died violent deaths sanctioned by the state. An investigative report on Falun Gong practitioners by the former Canadian Secretary of State, Member of Parliament David Kilgour, and the Canadian human rights lawyer David Matas, shows clearly that living practitioners serve as an organ bank, where they are murdered when buyers require organs. This report shows clearly that Falun Gong practitioners are systematically murdered in China by unscrupulous Chinese officials.

China's Commerce Minister Bo Xilai, and Li Lanqing, the former head of the 610 Office, both responsible for the country-wide persecution of Falun Gong in China, are said to be among Wen Jiabao's retinue. During the time Bo Xilai served as governor of Liaoning Province, the persecution of Falun Gong was extremely inhuman. Witnesses allege that a hospital in Sujiatun, Liaoning Province, was the main center for organ harvesting of livers and corneas from Falun Gong practitioners.

It is impossible for us to understand that two human rights criminals, who are responsible for the torture and murder of unaccounted for peoples, are guests of the Federal Republic of Germany. Should our information be correct, we ask you not to recognize the aforementioned individuals as representatives of the Chinese regime and rescind your invitation on the basis of their role in crimes against humanity.

The well-known Chinese human rights attorney Gao Zhisheng, who spoke out against the persecution in China, was arrested in Shandong Province on August 15th 2006 and is currently out of contact with the outside world. Attorney Gao is known for his dedicated advocacy for a constitutional state and human rights principles. He can expose officials of the Chinese regime as lawbreakers, torturers and murderers, given his deep investigation of what happened to Falun Gong practitioners. Undoubtedly, attorney Gao was arrested because of his uncompromising support for victims of the regime. We are asking you to demand the immediate release of attorney Gao Zhisheng.

We are also asking that you request the immediate return of the Renzheng Jiang family and Rui Guo to the German Federal Republic, so they no longer have to live in fear for their personal safety in China.

We thank you in advance for listening and addressing our concerns, directed to you, as the sitting Federal Chancellor. We believe in your commitment to bring an end to the abuses of power and in your advocacy for compliance with human dignity in China.
