Liu Shuping Detained at the Banqiao Women's Labor Camp in Tianjin for Nearly Six Years
By a Falun Dafa practitioner in Tianjin City
(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Liu Shuping's term at the Banqiao Women's Forced
Labor Camp in Tianjin has been extended four times. January 1, 2006, was her
release date after the second extension of six months. By then, she had been
detained at the labor camp for five and a half years. When her family members
arrived in the labor camp after traveling 200 li (approximately 60 miles), the
staff at the detention center said that her term had been extended for another
four months. Now it's been far longer than four months, yet Ms. Liu is still
detained at the labor camp. Ms. Liu Shuping, 50, is a Falun Dafa practitioner from Wuqing County, Tianjin
Province. After practicing Falun Gong, in addition to regaining her physical
health, she felt her mind had elevated, too. She had not acted against the
government or caused any harm to society or any individual. She was only
persistent in practicing Falun Gong and being a moral person following the
principles of Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance. She was arrested in
early 2001 and illegally sentenced to one year of forced labor. While detained in the First Team of the Banqiao Women's Labor Camp in Tianjin,
Ms. Liu was both mentally and physically tortured. Due to her unwillingness to
give up the practice or promise to quit the practice, the guards at the labor
camp put her in a dark room with some drug addicts and prostitutes. They
stripped her and brutally beat her. She was forced to "sit on the
plane" [a torture that makes a person bend in the shape of an airplane].
Seeing that she was still unwilling to give up, they began beating her during
the day and keeping her awake at night. Two convicted drug addict inmates or
prostitutes took turns to watch her to keep her from sleeping. As soon as she
closed her eyes, they would shout, push her, or make loud sounds so that she
could not sleep. she went on a hunger strike to protest this torture. The guards
then tortured her by force-feeding her. After several months of hunger strikes and force-feeding, Ms. Liu's body and
mind were both greatly harmed. She displayed symptoms of mental disorientation
and could not recognize people. She often screamed out of fear and was not even
aware when she soiled herself. After their extreme torture caused her to become
this way, the guards turned the facts around and said that she "went
crazy" because she practiced Falun Gong. Even when she was tortured to
extreme weakness, the guards still sent her to the "miscellaneous cases
group" and forced her to do physical labor with younger convicts, including
drug criminals, prostitutes, and thieves. Despite her age and her small stature
of less than five feet, she had to carry sacks of beans that weighed 100-120
jin (approximately 110 to 132 pounds) each. Two six-month extensions were added to her term at the labor camp. At the end
of the second extension, the guards prohibited her from sleeping for weeks at a
time. Seeing that she still would not cooperate, at the beginning of 2003, the
guards sent her away with the agency that first sent her to the labor camp. They
put her in a local detention center. She was again sentenced to three years of
forced labor. In less than two weeks, she was sent back to the First Team of the
Banqiao Women's Forced Labor Camp in Tianjin. Ms. Liu Shuping is still detained at the Banqiao Women's Labor Camp and
continues to be tortured and harmed. We hereby strongly urge the Chinese
government to release all Falun practitioners illegally detained at various
prisons, labor camps, mental hospitals, brainwashing centers, and detention centers. (China's country code is 86.) Supreme People's
