My Understanding of "Taking Things as They Are"
By Lanxin
(Clearwisdom.net) For a long time, after I tried many means to solve the
contradiction in my cultivation and did not have any effective results, I would
say, since I thought I had no other choice, "Maybe I should not be attached
to certain things. I should leave them alone and take things as they are."
However, after "taking things as they were" for a period time, the
condition became even worse. Therefore, I had some doubts about the phrase. My original understanding of "Taking things as they are" was that
one would be following heaven's will, that is, following the arrangements of
high-level beings. However, the arrangements of high-level beings are not the
same as the arrangements of Master. In the past, the old forces arranged in
detail the cultivation process of Dafa practitioners. If we do not have a clear
mind, it's easy for us to follow the arrangements made by the degenerated beings
of the old forces and bring trouble into our cultivation and effect our ability
to save sentient beings. Two years ago, my family was affected by a third person. The appearance of
this incident seemed to target my xinxing. Therefore, I initially
treated it as an ordeal to upgrade my xinxing as usual. After I fully understood
everything, I calmly dealt with it with generosity and rationality. I told
myself not to become attached to affection or hate. In addition, I tried to
control my mind to be calm like still water, even though there were some waves
every once in a while. From the waves, I could find the loopholes in my
cultivation and tried to behave even better. Based on my understanding of "Expounding on the Fa" (Essentials
for Further Advancement), I felt that I could truly maintain an unshakable
calm and that it would be sufficient to pass the test. However, my problem still
existed. My husband did not want to divorce me or to break-up with the third
person. In addition, he requested a two-year time period for him to consider.
The behavior of the third person was also disorienting me. Sometimes she cried
her heart out in confession. Yet after a few days, she stated the she could not
give him up. One day she visited me and said, "How about we both leave this
thing alone, give your husband two years, let him clear things up, then let him
make up his mind and take things as they are?" I did not realize that this was a trick played by the old forces. On the
surface, it was testing my benevolence and forbearance. Actually, it redirected
my energy and interfered with my concentration to do the three
things well. At the same time, the old forces took advantage of my
loophole: On the one hand, I knew that a marriage was decided by the divine and
is very sacred. On the other hand, I knew that ordinary people's morality was
very low. If they wanted to break up a family as their hearts dictated, I would
let them do as they liked. On the surface, I respected the arrangement of
heaven; however, I had no intention on sustaining it. In addition, while writing
this article, I realized that deep in my mind, I did not care about the
integrity of a family. The source of that concept came from ordinary people's
degenerated notions. I did not even consider that our cultivation format would
be left for the future as a reference. After "taking things as they are" for two months, I found that the
immoral behavior was getting more serious. I realized that my thought of
"taking things as they are" was not a righteous thought. In addition,
how could the marriage of a practitioner be decided by ordinary people? After
recognizing the interference of the old forces, I started to firmly reject the
arrangement. With righteous thoughts and Master's merciful support, the problem
was resolved quickly. After this incident, I had deeper understandings that the old forces seize
every opportunity. As Dafa practitioners in the Fa-rectification period, we
should clearly and correctly understand the Fa. Regarding the interference of
exhausting our energy, wasting our time, and discouraging our will, we should
enlighten to them. We should not feel that we are not attached and "taking
things as they are". The above is just my personal understanding. Please correct me if anything is
inappropriate. January 9, 2007
