The Persecution and Death of Falun Dafa Practitioner Mr. Hou Mingkai, Who Broadcast Truth Clarification Videos in Changchun City in 2002 (Photo)

(Clearwisdom.net) Falun Dafa practitioner Mr. Hou Mingkai from Jilin City was illegally arrested by Chinese officials in late 2001 for practicing Falun Dafa. He was merely following the teaching of Truth, Compassion and Forbearance, and clarifying the truth about the persecution. He was held for more than 20 days and went into exile after his release. In order to expose Jiang Zemin and his accomplices’ lies, Hou Mingkai took part in broadcasting informational videos about Falun Dafa through the Changchun City cable network in March 2002. According to an insider from the National Security System, the 610 Office posted a 50,000 yuan reward and promised a two-level promotion to whoever captured Hou Mingkai. Hou Mingkai was arrested in Changchun City on August 21, 2002. He was savagely beaten, tortured and died on the same day of his arrest at the age of 34. The police secretly cremated his body, claiming he had committed suicide by jumping off a building.

Below is another Dafa practitioner’s recollection of what happened to Hou Mingkai.

Officials from Jilin City 610 Office and from the National Security Division arrested me at my residence on August 20, 2002. They took me to the 610 Office and took all the valuables from my home, including a recorder I had bought in Japan, MD players, VCD players, pager, mobile phone, jewelry, a rice cooker, travel bags, 810 yuan in cash and my duffel bag. A large group of 610 Office agents took me to their office without following any due procedures. Hou Mingkai and two other practitioners were arrested along with me.

Hou Mingkai died from torture later that night in the room across the hall from where I was held. At the time the door in my room was open and I was handcuffed to the heating pipe. The door in Hou Mingkai’s room was closed, but I heard a female police officer say, "How come the tear gas didn’t work? I nearly gassed myself! This guy is quite something!" At least ten police officers were in the room with Hou Mingkai, one of them a woman.

Then, I heard hitting noises. Hou Mingkai was very tough and he didn’t moan at all. Some officers grew tired from beating him and came to my room to take a break and drink some water. They said, "This person endures a great deal. We couldn’t break him, even after using all kinds of tortures."

Later on, officers from many other rooms were called to Hou Mingkai’s room. I heard constant beating sounds and cursing by the police. Within 30 minutes the police said, "Hou Mingkai is finished. He is dying!"

It was around 3:00 a.m. or 4:00 a.m. on August 21, 2000. The police tried to hide their crime. They came to my room and told me, "Hou Mingkai escaped. He jumped out of the window." We were on the sixth floor and the police had been torturing him the whole time. He never got a chance to jump. I knew right away that he had been beaten to death.

I don’t know the names of the murderers, but I know they come from the Jilin City "610 Office and the National Security Division in Jilin Province. One of the police officers was Zhang (surname). Another Dafa practitioner’s arms were broken into several pieces from their brutal beating.

After Hou Mingkai died, the police took me to another room where another practitioner was held. They tried to match my "oral confession" with his. I saw him wrapped in lots of bandages and I asked, "What happened to you?" He said, "They broke my arms into several pieces through beating. They injured me in several places." This practitioner was later illegally sentenced to ten years in prison and transferred to Tiebei Prison in Changchun City. His current whereabouts are unknown.

Hou Mingkai was tortured to death that night because he wanted to protect other practitioners and me. If he had mentioned to the police about my involvement in broadcasting the videos, I would have been sentenced to at least ten years in prison. Instead, I was sentenced to two years of forced labor.

The broadcast incident took place five years ago. I still get tears in my eyes whenever I talk about it. I cannot help but cry when I think about the determination of Falun Dafa practitioners.
