Zhang Daobao Detained at Detention Center in Diaobingshan City, Liaoning Province for over 50 Days

Practitioner Mr. Zhang Daobao, 44, was an employee in the administrative services department of the Daming First Mining Company in Diaobingshan City, Liaoning Province. On the night of July 19, 2007, Mr. Zhang was illegally arrested by Captain Zhang Fenglai of the State Security Brigade, part of the Diaobingshan City Public Security Bureau. He was then detained in a Liaoning Province detention center.

That same night, Mr. Zhang was severely beaten and interrogated for hours. They tried to force him to make a false confession, but failed. They broke his ribs, and injured him all over his body. He was unable to walk. Guards instructed inmates to torture and beat him. To silence him, they gagged his mouth with rags and tape. At other times, Mr. Zhang was forced to do slave labor, making plastic flowers. If he resisted, he was beaten with a leather-wrapped bat.

Zhang Daobao has a wife, a small son and senile parents to support. His parents have long been debilitated. Many times, the authorities have refused to let his wife see him. Mr. Zhang's case has been transferred to the prosecution office.
