My 80-year-old Neighbor Begins Cultivating, Her Diligence Reminds Us to Do Better

My neighbor, an elderly lady, came to my house often. She listened carefully when my mother read the Fa so we began teaching her to memorize poems from "Hongyin." She liked it, and began to come every day. Later another old lady across the street explained to her more about Falun Gong and taught her the exercises. In this way, my neighbor began her cultivation.

She has been cultivating in Dafa for two years now. She is over eighty years old and is very diligent. She can recite over ten poems from Hongyin and has learned how to read quite a few words. Dafa has developed her wisdom.

Before she began cultivating in Falun Gong, she had hypertension, leg pains and other illnesses. All her illnesses disappeared since she began practicing. She never misses doing three things each day: listening to Teacher's lectures, doing the exercises, and sending forth righteous thoughts. She faithfully sends forth righteous thoughts at the four set times a day. She also went out by herself to put up truth-clarification posters.

It was a very cold day last winter, with heavy wind, slippery roads, and lots of ice on the ground. All her family members and I did not want her to go out, but she insisted. Thanks to Teacher's protection, she came back safely. She always sent forth righteous thoughts before going out. She would say to the posters as she put them up: "Stay here nicely and save people," and in the meantime carefully making sure that the posters were well-pasted. Indeed, the posters that she put up all stayed in place for a long time.

One day she went out right after breakfast and did not comeback until noon. She could not say how far she walked, but she put up over fifty posters. She began preparing lunch as soon as she got home, showing no sign of fatigue. People could not tell that she was eighty years old and all felt that Dafa was amazing.

Yesterday, she went out by herself to post posters. After she had finished with a few buildings, suddenly a middle-aged woman grabbed her and said: "What are you doing?" She answered with no fear whatsoever: "I am looking for Mr. So-and-so." Seeing that she was not moved, the woman let her go. She then went to two other buildings and finished putting up all her posters.

Ever since the Minghui/Clearwisdom website suggested that all practitioners in China should do the exercises at the same time, she always got up very early, woke her daughter up, and then the two of them did the exercises together. They never missed morning practice. One morning this spring, I went to her home to do the exercises. When we were about ready to start, she told me that she felt awful. I saw that she was breathing very heavily, and appeared weak and exhausted. I consoled her: "Don't worry. You'll be fine as soon as we begin the exercise." We started the exercises while she was moaning. I could see that she was strenuously resisting the pain, but after ten minutes or so she was completely fine. I once again witnessed the wonder of Dafa.

The changes in her over the past two years have been dramatic. She always thinks of others. She would send forth righteous thoughts for hours for me and other practitioners when we went out to tell people the facts. After we clarified the facts the other day we went to a fellow practitioner's home to study the Fa, but forgot to tell her about it. She ended up sending forth righteous thoughts for us all day until 11 p.m. when she went to bed. Then she got up as usual at midnight to send forth righteous thoughts, and at quarter to four to do the exercises. She now goes out every day with an eighty-seven-year-old fellow practitioner to clarify the truth and urge people to quit the CCP. While one of them talks, the other one sends righteous thoughts.

We younger practitioners saw this and felt that we fall far short in our cultivation. We looked inward and realized that it was our attachments, such as the attachment to comfort that has impaired us. We have made up our mind to study Fa more and strengthen our righteous thoughts, and save more sentient beings.
