Several Practitioners on Hunger Strike to Protest the Persecution in the Second Prison of Shenyang City, Liaoning Province

(Clearwisdom.net) Guards of Shenyang City Second Prison conducted a body search on Mr. Zhang Peng looking for Dafa materials. To protest the persecution, Mr. Zhang started a hunger strike on November 28, 2007. Mr. Li Shujun also went on a hunger strike the same day. Another practitioner, Mr. Meng Hua of Fushun City, detained in a different ward, went on hunger strike to protest the persecution, too.

Mr. Zhang Peng, Falun Gong practitioner from Anshan City, was sentenced to seven years in prison by Liaoyang City Court for making truth clarification materials. He is serving his term at the Fifth Ward of Shenyang City Second Prison. For his persistence in Fa-study and doing the exercises, Mr. Zhang has been locked in solitary confinement several times. The first time was in March 2004. Because he hand-copied Falun Dafa articles, he was locked in solitary confinement for 15 days. On June 13 2007, warden Meng Qinggang (male) led guards to ransack the cells. Mr. Zhang refused to cooperate, and therefore was held down on the ground by guards. The guards dragged him by his clothes, hauled him around until his arms were scraped, pressed his head to the ground, took away his Dafa books, and locked him in solitary confinement another 15 days.

On November 28, 2007, Mr. Zhang Peng once again refused to cooperate with the guards' body search for Dafa materials. Warden Meng Qinggang ordered four guards to take all Dafa books and copies of the "Minghui Weekly" away. Mr. Zhang started a hunger strike that same day. On December 2, 2007, the prison administrator called out three guards and four prisoners to carry Mr. Zhang to the hospital to force-feed him. On the road, Mr. Zhang yelled loudly, "Falun Dafa is good! I am innocent!"

Mr. Li Shujun started a hunger strike on November 28, 2007, to protest the prison's persecution of Mr. Zhang Peng.

Mr. Meng Hua of Fushun City was sentenced to 13 years in prison by Fushun City Shuncheng District Court, simply because he made truth-clarification materials. During his detention, Mr. Meng appealed for an unconditional released, but his appeal was rejected. In 2003, he was taken to the Fourth Ward in Shenyang City Second Prison. During this period, guards ordered prisoners to beat him, and confine him, because Mr. Meng refused to participate in the forced labor activities. In November 2007, detained practitioner Mr. Wang Tao from the same ward refused to "report" and the prison denied him visitation with his family. The prison feared that Mr. Meng would support Mr. Wang, and therefore transferred Mr. Meng and three other practitioners out of the fourth ward.

Mr. Meng subsequently went on a hunger strike because of the transfer. Prison officials implied that they would honor Mr. Meng's request if he would agree to eat, so he began eating nine days into the hunger strike. Prison officials didn't transfer Mr. Meng back to the Fourth Ward, so he went back on a hunger strike to express his demand. It has now been more than 20 days. He was sent to the hospital on December 2, 2007. He is extremely weak.
