Laiyuan County Officials in Hebei Province Arrest and Imprison Ms. Hou Manyu Multiple Times

Fifty-three-year-old Ms. Hou Manyun, a Falun Gong practitioner from Laiyuan County, Baoding City, Hebei Province, was arrested on September 5, 2007.

Ms. Hou has been arrested many times and was once held at the Laiyuan Detention Center for more than a year. She was also held in Baoding Forced Labor Camp for two years and was brutally tortured. She returned home in 2003. Six officials, including Wei Jinqui and Zhang Fang from the Laiyuan County National Security Bureau, as well as officials from the Baoding City Police Department broke into Ms. Hou's home at 7:00 p.m. on July 16, 2007. They took private property valued at more than 30,000 yuan from her home. Ms. Hou Manyun's husband, Mr. Wang Fushun, was sent to a forced labor camp three months later, but camp officials refused to accept him because of his poor health.

The police tortured Ms. Hou Manyun. Participating in the torture were Wei Jinqui, Zhang Wan and other officials from the National Security Section of the police department. One day she managed to free herself from the handcuffs and went to Zhuozhou City. Police arrested her again at 10:00 p.m. on September 5, 2007.
