A Call to Raise Awareness of the Situation of Ms. Zhou Chengmin, Illegally Detained in Banqiao Women's Forced Labor Camp in Tianjin

(Clearwisdom.net) In June 2006, Ms. Zhou Chengmin, a Falun Gong practitoner from Tianjin City, was sentenced to one-and-a-half years of forced labor in Banqiao Women's Forced Labor Camp. Because Ms. Zhou refused to be "transformed," she was brutally tortured by the guards.

Ms. Zhou Chenmin is in her 50s. She lives at Apt. 6, Lintong East Rd., Nankai District, Tianjin City. She started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. Before that, she suffered from severe hepatitis and gastric disease. After practicing Falun Gong, all the diseases were cured, and her family was very happy. After the persecution started in July 1999, Ms. Zhou went to Beijing twice with her daughter, Wang Changhong, to clarify the truth of Falun Gong. Because of that, Ms. Zhou was sentenced to four years and her daughter to two-and-a-half years of imprisonment. Ms. Wang was only 18 years old then. During that time, her husband and other family members all endured intense pressure. In May 2003, Wang Changhong was released, but Zhou Chengmin was released at the end of 2004. After her release, both the neighborhood association and the local police department in the Changhong area repeatedly went to her home to disturb and harass her.

On the morning of June 20, 2006, several police officers from the Changhong local police department in the Nankai District suddenly broke into her residence to search it. They took some of her Falun Gong books and other materials, including a computer and printer. They then took Ms. Zhou to the Changhong Police Station. Li Jianjun and other officers from the Nankai District Police Department then arrested her daughter Wang Changhong, who was on her way to work.

Ms. Zhou Chengmin was sentenced to one-and-a-half years of forced labor and Ms. Wang Changhong to one year and three months of forced labor. They were both taken to Banqiao Women's Labor Camp.

Ms. Zhou was imprisoned in Division 1, where she firmly refused to be "transformed." The prison guards were very strict with her and subjected her to brainwashing attempts. They played recordings that slandered Falun Gong. It is said that Ms. Zhou's current physical condition is very worrisome. Not long ago, several prison guards took her to Dagang Hospital in Tianjin for a physical. The cost of the check-up was deducted from Ms. Wang Changhong's account. Ms. Wang was imprisoned in Division 3 of the labor camp at the time of the checkup. Those in charge at the labor camp refused to show the results of the check-up or CT scan to Ms. Zhou's family. Her husband has requested to see the results every time he has gone to see his wife, but the guards have never allowed this.

One month remains before Zhou Chengmin's scheduled release date. We sternly request that Banqiao Women's Labor Camp immediately release her!
