The Persecution of Ms. Shi Yun and Her Husband, Mr. Jiang Yuliu, in Kunming City
(Clearwisdom.net) Ms. Shi Yun and Mr. Jiang Yuliu are teachers in No. 2
Vocational Secondary School in Kunming City, Yunnan Province. They individually
wrote public letters to their school and Education Commission in June 2004,
telling of the immense mental and physical improvements they experienced after
they began practicing Falun Gong. They pointed out in particular that it was
wrong to persecute Falun Gong and they hoped that their colleagues and
supervisors in the school and Education Commission could understand the truth of
the situation. Wan Jianguo, the president of the school, colluded with staff from the
610 Office and the Panlong District Police Station in Kunming City
to harass the couple. In July 2004, the police from the National Security Group
in the Panlong District and school leaders deceived Mr. Jiang Yuliu and took him
to Dapingba No. 2 Forced Labor Camp. His pregnant wife, Ms. Shi Yun, went from one place to another, campaigning
for his cause. She clarified the truth about her husband being
persecuted to the authorities at the National Security Group in the Panlong
District, the Public Security Bureau, the 610 Office, etc., and demanded his
immediate release. The authorities pressured and even threatened her. In
particular, Wan Jianguo, the president of the No. 2 Vocational Secondary School,
actively cooperated with the 610 Office and constantly threatened to dismiss her
from the school. Just before the delivery of the baby, Shi Yun requested many times that her
husband be allowed to come home and help take care of their baby. Officials of
the No. 2 Forced Labor Camp agreed to let him go to the hospital to visit his
wife, under the condition that the school would pick him up afterwards. But Wan
Jianguo and other school leaders strongly objected. Ms. Shi had to care for the
newborn alone and went through a long and difficult two years and seven months. The No. 2 Vocational Secondary School officials did not arrange any work for
Mr. Jiang after he was released in December 2006. He went to the school and
Education Commission many times, but the school officials kept shifting the
responsibility to others with all kinds of excuses. For more than ten months,
the family of three had to rely on Shi Yun's income alone. On September 30, 2007, the police from Xiaonan Police Station, the Wuhua
Division, and the Public Security Bureau of Kunming City arrested Ms. Shi as she
was mailing a letter and subsequently unlawfully searched their home and
confiscated their property. Six people not wearing police uniforms or presenting
any identification seized a laptop, a desktop, a printer, and a book. They also
took Ms. Shi to the detention center in Wuhua District. On November 1, with the approval of the Procuratorate in the
Wuhua District, Kunming City, the Wuhua Division, the Public Security Bureau of
Kunming City issued an arrest warrant and continued to illegally
detain Shi Yun in the Wuhua District Detention Center. November 23, 2007 |
