By a Falun Dafa practitioner from Chengdu, Sichuan Province

(Clearwisdom.net) I learned Falun Dafa in 1994. Time flies. In a twinkling of an eye, 13 years have elapsed. However, scenes of Teacher giving lectures and spreading Falun Gong in Chengdu still remain fresh in my memory. To share with you, I am going to write what I experienced at the time.

I Am Very Fortunate to Have Had an Opportunity to Listen to Teacher's Fa Lectures

Teacher gave lectures and spread Falun Gong in Chengdu from May 29 to June 5, 1994. Teacher said in "Genuinely Guiding People Toward High Levels:"

"As I have mentioned, this is because I am the only person who is doing such a thing. There are not many opportunities for something like this, and I will not teach this way forever. I think that those who can listen to my lectures in person, I would say, honestly... you will realize in the future that this period of time is extremely precious. Of course, we believe in predestined relationship. Everyone sits here all because of a predestined relationship." ("Lecture One," Zhuan Falun)

Then in Lecture Two Teacher said,

"Everyone comes here because of a predestined relationship. If you obtain it, perhaps you are supposed to have it." ("Lecture Two," Zhuan Falun)

At the time I knew nothing about "cultivation" and a limited understanding of "predestined relationship," thinking it only applied to marriage. However, when I learned Teacher would lecture in Chengdu, it instantly touched my heart. In learning other forms of qigong I had not had such a feeling.

I was in very poor health in my childhood. Mother told me that one one occasion nothing in my body seemed to move except my eyes. I also came across several dangerous situations. One day I used my bicycle, for example, to carry coal and it ended in an accident. The bicycle was ruined and I almost died. On another occasion, I almost drowned while swimming in the Bohai Sea in Beidaihe. Why I had been so lucky? Teacher said,

"Actually, everything that I have done was arranged countless years ago, and this includes who would obtain the Fa--nothing is accidental. But the way these things manifest is in keeping with ordinary humans. " ("Awakening," Essentials for Further Advancement)

After reading the above paragraph of the Fa, I enlightened to the fact that the sufferings I had in my first half of life and the opportunity I had to learn Falun Gong when I was in my 60's were not accidental. I formed karmic connections with Dafa ages ago and Teacher has protected me ever since.

In the morning of May 29, 1994, Teacher gave lectures and spread Falun Dafa at Ba'er Xinxiang Auditorium. Admission was free. When I entered the auditorium, Teacher was already sitting compassionately on the platform. Over one thousand seats, both downstairs and upstairs, were fully occupied. When I went up to shake hands and salute Teacher, Teacher asked, "Have you brought a cassette recorder?" I was very much surprised. Two days ago, in order to provide a news story for a local radio station, I questioned a veteran practitioner from Beijing about Falun Dafa. I asked her if I was allowed to record the lecture. She did not answer. Teacher came to Chengdu from Chongqing. The lecture finished on the 27th and most probably He arrived in the morning of the 29^th of May by train. Then how did Teacher know about it? I answered with shame, "It was a weekend so I was unable to borrow the recorder." A few days later, when announcing the establishment of the Chengdu Assistance Center, every practice site handed in the location and contact persons for these sites. Teacher asked me, "What about you?" He asked me because I talked to several practitioners about setting up a practice site. Later, when we found there was one nearby, we gave up our plan.

From these two incidents, I realized that our Teacher is nothing ordinary. In the evening, Teacher began to give Fa lectures at the Guest House of the Chengdu Power Plant and I recorded all the lectures with my old cassette recorder. A few days after the completion of the lectures we set up a practice site at a fellow practitioners' work place. In mid July I invited several fellow practitioners to introduce Falun Gong at my work place and later we set up an assistance center. It was just like what Teacher said,

"The success of his work is only a manifestation among ordinary humans. It is the mighty power of Dafa itself and the specific arrangements made by my Law Bodies that enable people to obtain the Fa and spread the Fa widely. " ("A Heavy Blow," Essentials for Further Advancement)

In the first two days I always felt very sleepy. In order not to miss the recording I kept pinching my eyelid but it was not effective. When Teacher adjusted students' bodies, I thought of my 5-year-old grandson who suffered from myocarditis. On the third and fourth day, Teacher said to me, "Your complexion has changed for the better!" Since I had suffered from lingering illnesses, my complexion was very pale and had no spirit. I suffered from neurasthenia, insomnia, icterohepatitis, chronic cholecystitis, lumbar hyperosteogeny and benign prostatic hyperplasia. It was known to all in my work place that I was a chronic invalid. As soon as I walked into the auditorium where Teacher gave Fa lectures I forgot about my medication and all my symptoms disappeared. Teacher, Falun Dafa is wonderful. Many relatives and colleagues entered into the gate of cultivation after witnessing my changes.

On June 4, in my experience sharing I asked Teacher about another form of qigong I had learned about a month ago when I took my grandson in for a treatment. I would not practice it any more. If I would have any contact with this person I would only treat him as a work related business relationship. On the following morning Teacher said very seriously at the beginning of the lecture that some people just could not let go of the things they learned previously. Instantly I realized that this was directed at me. Teacher talked about it in his lecture and it was to help me rectify my mind of the issue of practicing only one cultivation way. Thereafter I firmly believed in Teacher and Dafa, and persisted in studying the Fa and practicing the five sets of exercises.

In my professional career over the past 30 years I had attended numerous meetings-big or small-and every time the participants were chatting noisily down the stage. However, when Teacher was giving lectures he had not written a script but talked about a wide range of topics in a most profound way. The topics included the universe, the cosmos, and the human body. Teacher was very righteous in his words and deeds all the time, which wiped out all the dirt of the society and the warped thoughts of mankind in the Dharma-ending Period. New practitioners paid 40 yuan for the series of ten lectures and veteran practitioners only paid half of it. During his stay in Chengdu, Teacher went to the surrounding mountains and temples to rectify the Fa. At Wenshu (Manjusri) Monastery Teacher pointed out to the practitioners who went along with him that in the courtyard of the monastery, foxes, weasels, ghosts, and snakes were everywhere. Teacher helped to clean them out while he was talking. Teacher also selected the practice site for the practitioners.

In Chengdu, those who attended the Fa lectures were issued a "Certificate of China Falun Gong Practitioners" and at the end of the lectures a "Certificate of Completion of Falun Gong Lectures" which contained a photo of the practitioner, sealed by the Falun Gong Research Institute and a serial number. On the back of the certificate there was a seal of Teacher. The certificate was laminated.

All together, more than 800 people attended the Fa lectures, among them only 300 from the southwest area of Sichuan Province. The reason was that the host of the Fa lecture did not pass out the message. On the following day Teacher mentioned about a live broadcast at our radio station. At the time I had a very poor enlightenment so I replied that I was only an ordinary staff and had no right to change the programs. I also said, since the programs were prearranged, it was difficult to make changes and payment was needed for some time slots. Recently, when reading articles written by fellow practitioners from around the country in reminiscence of Teacher, I learned Teacher traveled far and wide, day and night in 1994 to give lectures and spread the Fa. Only then did I enlighten to the infinite grace and the feeling of urgency when Teacher raised the issue of live broadcasts to spread Dafa to save sentient beings and to recreate humankind. It is my regret in life for failing to contact the radio to arrange the live broadcast.

Happy memories help me to further strengthen my firm belief in Teacher and Dafa, to deepen my understanding of the Fa and to find out my shortcomings as well as to press me to be more diligent. At the final stage of Fa rectifying the cosmos, as a Fa-rectification period Dafa practitioner, I must do three things well and walk every step well on the path of Fa-rectification and live up to Teacher's benevolent salvation.
