For refusing to renounce Falun Gong, she was sent to a forced labor camp in 2000, where she suffered severe abuse. The National Security Team in Chanhe District Police Department detained Mao Chunxia for 15 days at first. Afterwards, they changed the detention term to a criminal detention term and planned to send her to a labor camp again. However, their scheme failed. Mao Chunxia escaped with righteous thoughts on the day her initial 15-day term expired. Nobody has known her whereabouts since then.
The National Security Team police officers in the Chanhe District Police Department frequently harassed her family members. Her father could not bear the constant pressure. As a result, he fell ill and died on February 7, 2007.
