Chinese International Student Writes to Finnish MPs Asking for Help to Rescue Her Stepfather, Zhang Weijie (Photo)

Dear Sir/Madam:

My name is Sunny Xu. I am from Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China. I am now a student in Haaga-Helia, Helsinki, Finland. Recently I learned that an EU-China Human Rights Dialog aiming at improving human rights in China will be held in Germany on May 15-16. I think it is a good opportunity for me to ask for help from you, as I really do not know to whom else I can go to seek help.

My stepfather, Zhang Weijie, is a Falun Gong practitioner. He started practicing Falun Gong in 1996. He subsequently recovered from his illnesses, including a paralysis that had caused him to suffer for many years. In addition, he became kinder to others and gave up alcohol, smoking and gambling, and began following the Falun Gong principle "Truthfulness, Compassion, Forbearance." Falun Gong is really a good traditional Chinese cultivation practice because it teaches people to be good. However, after the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) started the persecution of Falun Gong in 1999, my stepfather was arrested twice and sentenced to forced labor for one year, and placed in a labor camp in 2001. On March 20, 2007 he was arrested again by the 610 Office of Jiang District, Wuhan City, and no information about him has been available since. My mother has tried all that she can to find him, but in vain. I worry about his safety very much. More than forty days have passed but no information is available. I worry about him even more knowing that the CCP is harvesting organs from living Falun Gong practitioners and selling them to for profit. Personally I know there is a place in Wuhan City where organs are harvested. Facing the horrible persecution of Falun Gong in China, my step-father's life is in danger every single second.

Every week the Falun Gong practitioners in Finland go to the Helsinki Central Railway Station to tell people what is happening in China. We want to bring the persecution of Falun Gong in China to an end by letting people all around world know the truth. This is the only thing we can do with our own hands. In China people do not even have the freedom to express their true thoughts. The arrests of my stepfather are a good example of the worsening human rights situation in China. The purpose of the EU-China Human Rights Dialog is to improve this situation. Every day there are huge numbers of persecution cases that are reported on the web-sites abroad, and these all reveal that the CCP has never stopped persecuting Falun Gong practitioners since 1999.

As a foreign student here, I do not know where I can go to seek help, and I am very worried about my family in China. I hope the Finnish government can help me. Thank you.
